I wouldn't mock the pit pull. They're vicious creatures. They were bred originally from mountain pulls (for their vigorous thin-air constitutions) and Mojave pulls (for their heat resistance and heavier hides) specifically for pit fighting.

They've also been used extensively for security work. Most people generally train them not to go for the throat, as their ability to clamp and hold on to a person's extremities make them ideally suited to detaining an intruder for further "questioning." In fact, that's even the root for the phrase "pulling your leg"...

I always thought the Mojave pull was the same species as the Rocky Mountain pull.

The Mojave pull is bread for speed to pull the loads quickly between dusk and dawn

The Rocky Mountain pull is bread to pull the loads over rough ground and not get tired in the thin air
