1) Does the usual awarding of "bennies" for roleplay/fun stuff/etc. apply to Fate Chips? If so, do I (Marshall) just take one randomly from the pot and award it or only white chips, which are the closest to bennies?
2) How do players receive new Red and Blue chips? Only at the beginning of each session? |

| 1&2) When awarding fate chips, be it at the start of the session or during play, you draw them randomly from the pot. |

| So, to be clear, I can (and should) award Fate Chips for good roleplaying, fun stuff they do, great one-liners, etc. and draw them randomly from the pot? |

1) Up to you. I sometimes award a random chip. Other times, I will set a minimum value ("that was really funny, worth at least a red") for the random chip. Other times I will define a chip value and dig out the appropriate color ("that was just cool enough to get a white, but nothing more"; "that was really heroic and likely to get him killed - definitely a blue chip").
The only rule is to be fair to your players.
2) Whenever you give them red or blue chips, be it randomly or in response to a particular stimulus.
There is no hard rule after the initial draw. Just guidelines and the Marshal's discretion.
You are the Marshal, this is your game. Do what seems like the most fun. Good luck! _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

thats what i do. just be aware that if you give them out a lot you will have to send a lot more bad guys at them if your goal is to give them a hard fight. |

Huh? I thought you couldn't award new Fate Chips, and the three you got in the beginning were all you got. _________________ Repairer of Reputations |

the rule book says that they are used in place of bennies so yes i assume you'd always draw fate chips because what would you be using other wise if you aren't using "bennies" (they don't really say what happens when you get new fate chips but the way they handle reds would seem to make the fate pot drawing the sensible thing to do.)
if worse comes to worse lets hope clint or somebody important tells us what they meant to happen with new fate chips. |

Only if your Marshal hates the PCs and wants them to die in a bloody mess.
Fate Chips are the setting version of bennies, and like bennies are handed out whenever and however the Marshal deems appropriate.
This can be random draws, as catalac does, "earned" by how hindering the event is ('trouble' gets a white, 'bad trouble' gets a red, 'gonna die' gets a blue), or a mix of the two. I prefer the mix, but I'm not there to kill the posse - I've got enough TPKs under my belt that I don't feel the need for more. _________________ "Got a problem? | Back in the old days you definitely got more as the game went on -- they were the game's version of XP! |
