If you want realism, then start out that way, (gas cylinders/fuel thanks don't go boom when shot!), but when I play any RPG, its about group story telling, so if thew gas can goes BOOM, makes for a better story......it goes BOOM! Cool

For me Savage Worlds games fall right into Pulp action so I treat it about half a step less realistic than an action film. If I want something even more over the top I'll play something like FATE and if I want something more realistic I'll break out GURPS. The beauty of the modern age of gaming is we have access to all these different things depending on the feel we want.

We go realistic as far as the world reacting and what not, but damage descriptions and complicated action scenes are usually very cinematic (especially any scene recaps that we do).

Gameplay being cinematic or not really doesn't matter to me much. I can give or take it either way. I don't like it when world reactions aren't realistic though.

Though I'm not talking about race/sex realism. That's gets old and limiting. More like the PCs walking into a bar with M16's strapped to their backs and nobody bats an eyelid.

In my current game I've been trying to create world realism. It's set in the 1920's and I've tried using as much historical backdrop as possible. Mage orders that really existed, prophecies that existed, even tracked down a 1910 owners manual for something the PCs found and gave it to them. The company that the party is interacting with now is Gulf Oil and I used their logo from back then on letterhead I put together.

My favorite moment was when the players were given pages from an old book describing El Tajín, which are Aztech ruins in Mexico. One of the players commented on this image:

She said "A star of David? Really?"

Um, yes, that symbol really appears in an ancient Aztec temple. It appears all over the world and is also known as the Seal of Solomon. Was their a connection between the Aztec and Egyptians? Was there a magical/cult significance with that symbol being adopted by Jews way back when?

There's so much weird stuff out there. It's fun researching it up. Though after awhile you can turn into Fox Mulder and see conspiracies everywhere. The real world is pretty damn freaky. Surprised
