I was thinking, since everyone has such fun with Savaging CthulhuTech, I was wondering if their would be any interest in taking on WildFire's other Mythos-hard science fiction mashup, Chthonian Stars? _________________ Be Aggressive,

I got CS. I got RoC. and I got SF Companions. I'm all set.

- Its grounded in real science to a point so no ftl and energy weapons
- No Psionics or magic for it is the realm of the Cosmic Horror so players having access to this is a bit of a no go
- Mainly an investigation and react game and in some cases a bug hunt are the most common scenerios
Capture the feel not the mechanics |
Of course! One thing I note in RoC is that there is no Arcane Background for magic anyway. Spells are picked up by learning them from moldy old books that drive you insane just to look at them.
As for bug hunts... I'm always up for a bug hunt. _________________ Be Aggressive,

Seen them all with the exception of Pandorum and (obviously) Prometheus. The latter is one of The Three Movies I'm Really Looking Forward To Seeing In 2012: John Carter (seen it twice, loved it no matter what the haters say), Prometheus, and The Hobbit (Part 1). _________________ Be Aggressive,

I beleive this is my favorite Cthullu mythos kinda game. I've always thought the mythos was way too heavy-handed with the mind blowing/madness thing, but that is a mojor part of the mythos, isn't it? I like Cthonian Stars 'cause, while still having a creeping horror type background, it sounds like it was made to be cinematic. _________________ "Anything smaller is just fiddly, and fiddly is not one of SvgW's three Fs..." |

That's more or less what I'm shooting for. As much as I love the new Traveller and I'm anxious to see what WildFire does with The Void (that is, if they can get their business back in order), Savage Worlds lends itself to a more action packed RPG session. That, and PC generation won't take a few hours. _________________ Be Aggressive,

Right now I'm trying to figure out how much Wealth I should give my PCs. I'd rather not mess with the current price list for items, but since characters in CS receive a set amount of money per 2/4 year term depending on their career, I'm having some trouble figuring out how much to give a Novice PC. _________________ Be Aggressive,

Are all players Wardens, like sugested in the Chtonian stars rulebook?
If they are money isnt really important, or?
I mean, they have the ressources of the warden organisation, so private money doesnt come up often. I would go with the standard 500$+maybe a private living space (apartment+furniture) on earth.
If they are merchants or anything like that wealth could be important, but even then you could go with edges that give access to a spaceship. |

Have you checked out Eldritch Skies?
It's Cthulhu set in 2030 with alien tech allowing star travel from the 1990s |

On the topic of Eldritch Skies vs. Chthonian Stars vs. ChtulhuTech ...
From my point of view this is a movement on two main axes.
One is desperation ... meaning that Eldritch Skies has a relatively neutral outlook on humankind's future. Yes, the creature of the Cthulhu mythos exist. They are aliens and in no immediate position to eat our souls (we even trade with the Mi-Go and Deep Ones).
Chthonian Stars is a time where we start to discover there are other creatures out there, and they might not like us (other than as breakfast). There is hope (or rather it's not clear that this might be mankind's undoing) but with every new discovery it gets worse.
Finally, in CthulhuTech, the end is nigh. This is our last stand and the Mythos is throwing everything it's got at us.
The other axis is ... well, let's call it over-the-top-ness (realism somehow sounds phony).
Here Chthonian Stars is the lowest level with Traveller-like hard SciFi. No FTL travel, no magic, no Dreamlands.
Eldritch Skies goes much further but stays "reasonable" within western SciFi. FTL travel (check), Cthulhoid magic (check), Dreamlands (Check). No Mecha though.
Enter CthulhuTech. This IS over the top. Technology, magic, art, in-game perversion. (And note, this is no quality assessment ... just a relative measurement).
What I'd personally like to play would be something like a mixture of Chthonian Stars and earthbound Eldritch Underground from CT. Something that is relatively "realistic" (no Mecha, no yet-another-monster-race-that-wants-to-eat-our-souls") but with a little PSI or Cthuloid magic that you can use to frighten the PCs. Relatively low powered. "Street-level" so to speak. Maybe they are just police or PI or maybe low-ranking spies.
We'll see whether I can spin Interface Zero, Realms of Cthulhu and Agents of Oblivion into a credible setting ...
But I'll watch this thread with great interest.
Carry on. |

If you're looking for inspiration, and assuming you don't already have it already, you may want to try to hunt down a copy of GURPS CthulhuPunk. _________________ Be Aggressive,

I actually made some headway with the Edges/Hindrances this afternoon. Work goes slowly and surely. _________________ Be Aggressive,

Still pondering how to mix it best. Did a "Declare"*)-influenced Agents of Oblivion campaign recently that people liked a lot.
It had Mythos-like antagonists (cults & monsters) but was based in 2012 reality.
Still have to figure out how to do Blade-Runner-meets-Eldritch-Underground correctly.
