So I am pretty damn excited! Talked to Sean Preston earlier today, and though I am sad to know he's suffered a great deal with an illness that apparently did a lot of damage in Memphis, he's back on track and layout is fully underway for Shaintar: Legends Arise. I've submitted an art reference package, and we are on track for release in the not-too-distant future.
No, I'm not saying when for sure. Even if he were bedridden, Sean would find a way to hurt me if I did.
I can tell you that we are both very excited about what this is going to do and mean for the Savage Worlds community as a whole. A completely, holistically integrated set of epic high fantasy rules that not only presents the realm that is Shaintar, but will honestly enhance almost any Savage Worlds campaign in some way or another.
I've put everything I've learned over the last few years about Savage Worlds into this, and I look forward to sharing it with everyone. _________________ Sean Patrick Fannon

PS: Please, do a shiny work about last minute balancing and playtesting (and, sorry, I can't be yours this time, LOT of work to do for my house...). However I hope the first proofreading I did at least one year ago will honor me with a mention in the credits. _________________ "Balance is the key, Trapping is the word." - - Lord Lance

Sean, I have a question, but its not meant to be offensive.
Is this version of Shaintar going to be written in the same "Tone of Voice" as the previous version, or is it going to be a more "clinical" tone like other books.
I ask, because, as much as I like the world of Shaintar, reading the previous book just grated on me. It read too much like an informal write up of a homebrewed game than a regular book. (Not saying that it was ameturish by any stretch, very professionally done, it was just how the actual side columns and other things struck me.)
I have the same sort of issue with Stephen King books. Love his stories, just can't read his books. |

Strange, I liked the tone of the previous book. A much more conversational and enjoyable tone than one usually finds in gaming books. Besides, I'm not sure how one would write "GM to GM" advice sidebars in a "clinical" tone. But to each his own. However, I wouldn't expect Sean to change his writing style anymore than Stephen King would. I can't picture Sean adopting a false voice just to write like an instruction manual.

Hello Guys!
I'll step in, up, over, or on this topic, and address it.
One of the things I discussed with SPF at the beginning of the project is the preservation of his voice in Shaintar. We accomplished that. At the same time, we did rigorously edit the work(s), and brought the presentation of materials more in line with the Reality Blurs family of products.
The sidebars, now entitled Liner Notes, offer up his perspectives and options he uses in his home games.
When you pick up this book, you'll know it's from us, from the Blur. Norm Hensley and myself rolled up our sleeves and pitched in in places. However, it's written in one unified voice, just like Agents of Oblivion was. The style is different. This is a large, sprawling fantasy world created by SPF. We didn't want to lose its uniqueness when it was brought in house.
In conclusion, we walked a fine line which satisfy both camps. It is at once familiar to those familiar with our previous works, yet retains the flavor and epic sweep of which Shaintar is so deserving.
Regards,
Sean _________________ Reality Blurs

Thanks Sean.
You've helped put my mind at ease on this one. I hate asking questions like the one above, because often times its seen as an attack and it was never meant to be. (Though I'm fairly certain I made that clear ) |

Sure thing! No worries. You were crystal clear. We appreciate your interest!

Well, I like the author sidebars a lot too.
I'm really interested in understanding WHY he made certain choices.
Finally, I feel the book more "personal", as another Game Master is sharing his knowledge and his point of view with me. _________________ "Balance is the key, Trapping is the word." - - Lord Lance

Yeah, I like knowing why he made the choices he did.
See, I don't run published settings, most of the time. Instead, I tear out chunks of what I like about a setting and plunk it into one of my own devising, surrounded by the shiny bits of other settings and sourcebooks, like Frankenstein's magpie nest. |

As noted, my voice is what it is. At the same time, there was a collaborative effort to make the end product sing in all ways.
Where you need fantasy historical/narrative tone, I believe we accomplished that. Where you needed rules dissertation in a clear and concise manner, we got that down.
Where it was a matter of me - as a fellow Game Master - talking to my colleagues, that has been maintained.
I'll have to let the final product stand for whether or not we succeeded or not.
I believe, sincerely, we did.
In spades. _________________ Sean Patrick Fannon
