My Ghostbusters were headquartered in Bedlam City. They captured ghosts, fought Jamaican zombies in a sewer, and an evil mummy. Half way through they gained superpowers and fought some villains and more zombies. Uncovered the cult activity of the Sisterhood of the Screaming Stars and defeated the Queen of Skulls in the final adventure.
The adventure I'm most proud of is when the GBs were hired by Old Man Hardwick to deal with three Ghosts haunting the evil bastard on Christmas eve. They captured the Ghost of Christmas Past and the Ghost of Christmas present escaped. They decided not to interfere with the Ghost of Christmas future. At the end they let the GoCP go and he had Christmas dinner with them. It was a very merry adventure. _________________ "People using flintlock pistols shouldn't fire warning shots." -- Badmovies.org |

IIRC the Real Ghostbusters cartoon from the Eighties once had a similar episode. _________________ The rabbit is cuddly. Kids like little cuddly sidekicks. I mean... The rabbit... It's a time-tested... Okay, the rabbit bites.

They actually captured all three, thus destroying Christmas. Whoops. |

There should be a way to incorporate the Ghost Die into Savage Ghostbusters.
That's a mechanic from the original Ghostbusters RPG. The Ghost Die was a d6 with the Ghostbusters logo on the 1 spot. It was a d6-based system, and you always rolled the Ghost Die as one of your dice. If the logo came up, something went awry. Even if the skill roll you were attempting was successful, if the logo came up you succeeded but something bad happened as well.
I guess SW sort of already has that with the occasional "1 on the skill die" like with Spellcasting or the innocent bystander rule, but I a;ways liked the Ghost Die concept. _________________ 'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

Why not just make the Wild Die the Ghost Die?
Roll a 1 on the Wild Die and something goes awry. You might succeed, but you're covered in goo.
Since you always roll a Wild Die with any Trait roll and it doesn't change (except for getting up to Legendary and then only for a single Trait), seems like it would work. I might be missing something obvious though why it wouldn't. _________________ Clint Black

I didn't want to suggest that because usually it's a 1 on your Trait die that hoses you, not your Wild Die.
Your suggestion would be a great setting rule, though, especially since GB is supposed to be humorous anyway.
Now if only one could buy Ghost Dice... _________________ 'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

It's more that you and whoever wrote that particular episode were inspired by the same famous ghost story. _________________ The rabbit is cuddly. Kids like little cuddly sidekicks. I mean... The rabbit... It's a time-tested... Okay, the rabbit bites.

They also fought shoggoths, star spawn, and the Great Cthulhu himself (red rather than green, for some reason) when the Necronomicon was stolen from the library at Miskatonic U.

The Real Ghostbusters cartoon ran for 7 seasons.
Bet there's a lot of gaming ideas in there!!

| I maintain it was never the same after Lorenzo Music left. He was pretty much the perfect Peter Venkman. |

Heh... I snagged a copy of Ghostbusters International at a used book bookstore recently. Made me wax nostalgic on several levels.
I only played the WEG version once as a one-shot a few years back. GM had us make characters based on Real Life actors, I picked Jason Mews, (of Jay and Silent Bob fame), with the trait of Tenuous Leaps of Logic. Fun was had by all.
Just snagged all of Jordan's PDFs for later reading.
Think I'll watch the movies as well as the most excellent fan film done by http://www.braxtanfilm.com/ when I have the time. _________________ I'm wise enough to know that I don't know half as much as I think I know. Y'know? |
