You can also pick up some great pieces at your local pet store pretty cheap. Just walk down the fish tank decor isle. _________________ My Savage Worlds Blog

What did some one say cheap, in old English my family name means cheap
Streaked Rusty Pre-Fab Buildings
If you ever play(ed) fallout the adobe buildings are modeled after similar styro foam boxes. So save those styro foam blocks the come wraped around large electroic devices
Also in the cheap toy sections are the accessories for army men and army men scale things like cave men and farms. You can also find the accessories in random bags at thrift stores. Building parts, fences, rocks etc
And some scales of Model rail road accessories and people would work allthough they are not cheap but i picked up a few things at thrift stores that the toy stores had dumped on them as they had damaged packages _________________ http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h51/Vondan/ |

Links to great sites are nice, but I've been recently starting to think that Pinterest might offer a lot to terrain builders. I haven't had time to get to know it well, has any of you got any experiences with it? I think you could create terrain pinboards with it, which would allow to find exactly the things you'd like to see quickly. _________________

I've been saving plastic containers from the grocery store deli for use in sci-fi games. The trays are usually black plastic, with a "grid" texture bottom broken only by the obligatory manufacturing information and such, which can easily be covered up by a cardboard "hatch" or "plate" or obligatory gizmo.
The "walls" are often very sci-fi-looking, and the plastic is easy enough to cut with scissors to make doorways and such. Basically, have the tray right-side-up, and you've got a way to represent a sci-fi building interior chamber. Flip it upside-down, and you can use it to represent a small bunker, building or other structure exterior.
I've also found that plastic cross-stitch grid from the craft store can be great as a "poor man's techno flooring." It's usually available in a variety of colors (or I can just paint it as I please), and can easily be cut with scissors.
I regret I don't have any pictures handy. I'll have to do something about that. _________________

I've made some shanty shacks with THIS handy gizmo.
Just get a normal index card and run it through it and it comes out looking just like corrugated tin. I then glue them on a frame work of Popsicle sticks. Paint them rusty and you got a great shack.. _________________

TAG has 11 handy scratch building terrain guides. A lot of the terrain has been used on our gaming table.

I made some small palm trees out of squirrel gnawed pine cones, for the trunk, and silk plant leaves for the foliage.
I just trimmed the leaves into the shape of a palm frond and then cut from the edge of the leaf toward it's center line.
Hot glued the leaves on top of the pine cone. Hot glue the end result on to a base. _________________
