|
|
Afternoon folks,
We just got done with character creation for the upcoming NE game, and one of my players wanted to do a Beast Boy type characters.
He wants to be able to turn into animals of varying size.
Example: small rat to scout, gorilla to fight, dinosaur to stomp..ect
He specifically wanted these forms to be "super" versions..rather then just normal strength, toughness..ect
So to build this we used:
*Animal Control 10 (Single huge, two large or five small animals)
+Shapechanger
So this will allow him to change into pretty much any animal.
*Growth- 1
This allows him to make a larger version of that animal with more Toughness and Strength.
Is this the right way to handle this?
Lets assume he transforms into a gorilla. I would then use a gorilla template, and when he uses Growth that would increase the Toughness and Strength of said animal?
Also, does Shapechanger allow him to turn into a swarm of rats, insects? The lowest level allows the power to control these swarms, so I assume Shapechanger allows him to be the swarm. |

I believe so, yes (that's how I handled it). Technically he would have to grow as another action, but I don't think it's an unreasonable trapping to have Shapechanger and Growth work together (assuming that all his forms are bigger).
I'd also strongly recommend taking Attack, Melee (so that his attacks count as Heavy Weapons).

Yes, he can turn into a swarm. |

Yeah, that could easily work as a trapping for Growth. He can't use the power on its own, only as a function of shapeshifting into a larger version of an animal, so it's just an inherent part of shapeshifting, counting as a single action. _________________ Clint Black

Thanks, I appreciate your feedback
Do you think I should provide a discount for Growth since it is tied to his Animal Form so closely? It's not nearly as flexible if the power was separate. |

Nope, because he doesn't have to change form and then separately spend a full round growing into a bigger version of that animal. That's a pretty big benefit (activating two powers as one), and realistically, he wouldn't want to use one level of Growth without shapechanging too very often anyway. For instance, if he wanted to be able to open doors, use tools/weapons, and so on, he could still change into an ape and do all that.
Edit for clarification. _________________ Clint Black

In a similar vein, what about a character like Ultra Boy from the Legion of SuperHeroes who has all the powers of Superman but can only use them one at a time? _________________ The day mutant zombies rise in my town is the day I get to be a hero. |
