It is the size of a 50 pound back pack with extra cases of attachments and replacement vacuum tubes. It requires up to an hour of fiddly adjustment to take a reading. Results appear on rolls of ticker tape. The smallest guy in the squad is always picked to carry it |
Naw, It's going to be for a Savage RE:1936 so martian technology will be partially involved. So less than 50 lbs, but you're right, probably a backpack like the radioman carries. And I envisioned a guy listening on headphones and learning from the sound of the "ping", like the first RADAR operators did. Handheld units would be like the big clunky walkie-talkies with an oscilloscope screen.
I'm just trying to figure out what kind of information they could deduce.
You see, Martians are used to fancy holographic images and verbal (or psychic) interfaces and always trivialise and underestimate human ingenuity. Humans, on the other hand, don't trust the Martians (with good reason) and will use Martian technology only when absolutely necessary.
And, yes, there will be cases of attachments and spare vacuum tubes...

A couple of years ago my kids and I started an RSE:36/SW game. We became a bit discouraged when Mr. Kaan fell off the grid.
We used the old Adventure Deck and pulled the relic card several times (even got the relic card and minor relic card in one adventure).
One of the relics was a Royal Analiziometer. I actually found a pic on a Steampunk site.It is supposed to be a steampunk version of a tricorder. You may still be able to find it. _________________ http://www.armsonline.org/

I read a book of short stories in the last year that all had to do with time travel. One story had Eeinstein going back in time to his young self at the Swiss patient office and trying to get himself to stop his work. Older Al takes young al on a ride in a timeship/rocket and they travel to the future and see that with his published theory man kind advanced so fast they had outer space travel by the 40's and ww2 had space combat and by the 50's or 60's with out the need to preserve mother earth the planet was destroyed. Old Al took young all back to is time and Albert Eeinstein soon after published an incomplete paper that we know as Eeinstein's break through E=MC2 _________________ http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h51/Vondan/ |

Mr. Kann is alive and well. You can even find him on the "Old School Gamers" Facebook group.
I messaged him the other day about RE36 and he said that when he got back to it, he was going to include a rule system (but it didn't sound like it would be SW) and is currently busy with a fantasy setting.

Dammit, I'm gonna hafta dig out my Rocketship stuff again. I even had some stuff written for the newsletter.
I remember you fellas from the RE forum. We were debating potential rulesets for this systemless setting. You guys are the ones responsible for Savaging me. Thank you all.

Thanks for the Analiziometer! It's a bit too Victorian, though. But it's given me some ideas.
I still need a list of things that it can and cannot do, however.

Being systemless, it pretty much is...
You just need Weird War II, SWEx/SWD, and the sci-fi tool kit(s).
Maybe the Sci-Fi Companion will be out soon...

Rumor has it that RE36 will be revived in 2013.
What do you think is the next book that needs to be released?
Does Weird War II cover enough equipment that no separate book is needed?
I'd like to see an outline book for the other major empires.

Weird War II covers the regular equipment but not the martian/human hybrid equipment. I'd be interested to see other peoples ideas on this.
