I did not see this posted anywhere so I apologize if my search skills failed me. Looks like a pretty cool setting.

hey, thanks. I was getting ready to post an announcement here Smile

Dogfighting with dragons sound interesting?
Golem anti-tank squads?
Zombies being employed as weapons of mass destruction?

Then, you'll want to check this out.

Kaiser's Gate is an alt-history setting for Savage Worlds in which the introduction of magic dramatically changes the course of the First World War.

Very cool Mike. I sent the link out to the guy in our group as well. I really think this is a cool idea with a lot of potential. I will definitely be backing this project I just need to figure out which level.

I own it for True20 and I do find it to be a very cool setting. I thought about trying to run it under Savage Worlds, so I'm glad to hear I won't have to be sinking my own time into that. Wink

One question I have about the this new Savage Worlds version; will there be more ground vehicles with complete details/specs than there was in the T20 version? That's something I found lacking and without any other WW I themed T20 settings to draw upon, it kept me from considering launching a campaign. I did think the aircraft and ace pilot NPCs were truly excellent though. Smile

Interesting... Last year I adapted the 4-issue Bluewater comic book series, 'War of the Elementals' to audio for Colonial Radio Theatre. It features more than a few WWI dogfights with "dragons" and thus may of be interest to fans of your upcoming RPG!

No release date yet for my project (its in the producer's hands and should be going into production shortly).

Bryan Hitchcock handled the conversion to SW. I'll see if I can get him to answer that.

Sounds like fun, I'm in for $10. I like the fact that you're offering the digital copy in a Kindle version. That's a nice touch, one I would like to see more game companies take.

Absolutely worth $10 for a PDF and to help add to the Savage Worlds lineup.

Looks like a cool setting. Though I wonder how well a party would work with a lot of different player concepts. Seems it might be easier to sort of tell the players they'll all be part of a combat unit and need to have builds that work in line with that.

For example the campaign might be the Scarlet Griffon Riders of Marseille, so they'd all have to be griffon riders, but 1 guy might be a crack shot, another might be a fire slinging mage, another was a professional boxer before joining the war, etc.

And of course, the adventures would be about their daring missions deep into enemy territory...

Cool, I'd really appreciate hearing if there's any change. Of course that will be a moot point once Weird Wars I is released, as it should be very easy to borrow from it for this setting. I'll for sure get the Savaged version of this, but if it doesn't have more ground vehicle content than the T20 verson I'll probably get it after WW I is released.

We will have to let Bryan answer that questions.

I'm a little concerned with the powerpoint less magic system. that could be subject to abuse

As far as I know it worked well in playtest. It also seems good on paper (when I read the ms). Any further details have to come from Bryan.

I played in a test session with Bryan, and we talked a little about the design theory from a Savage Worlds perspective. Hopefully he'll note this thread and try to answer a few questions, but since we did a fair bit of discussion about the magic system I think I'm not out of line by saying the intent was to make the magic powerful - even a little 'over the top'.

That said, if I recall correctly (it's been a fair chunk of time since the play test), the magic wasn't handled much differently than the Power Point-less option presented in SWDE - so you should be safe from most abuse. And if you'll have someone abusing it, you can always feel free to either disallow that player from handling magic or simply House Rule that you're using standard rules for magic. Smile

Plot Point campaign?

No. There are a million and one adventure threads, though. I found the historical section very evocative, with several eras of play. It would be great to write a campaign for Kaiser's Gate, but that is not what the book is right now.

Tanks and land vehicles?
Yes, lots. I took everything from the previous versions of Kaiser's Gate and converted as much as I could to Savage Worlds. So all the great historical and original pilots are there, as well as write-ups for historical vehicles, tanks and weapons.

No Power Points?
Yes, Spellbinding is very powerful. I'd imagine almost every character having some level of magic skill. However, the spellbinding traditions are very focused, and have other costs a character must pay. A heroic rank KG spellbinder might have a small chance of ever failing, but the scope of his spells will be defined by his tradition. I don't want to give it all away, but there are limits, just no power points.

I'll probably run another playtest again soon. The last one focused on aerial combat. I think an espionage mission with lots of spellbinding and mythical creatures sounds fun.
