Yeah, but nothing says that has to be true for Savage Nuasicaa. She could be like a nude Celtic Warrioress of ancient times, but with updated tech gear. |

If the anime you saw was the original English dub "Warriors of the Wind," then you'll do yourself a BIG favor if you watch the re-dub released by Disney a few years ago.
It restores over 20 minutes of the original story that was needlessly cut from the first dub. The restored footage helps the movie make more sense, since it was a pretty important plot point that was cut. It also restores the characters' original names, and has much better voice talent. You can't go wrong with Patrick Stewart as Lord Yupa!
But the manga is definitely the way to go. The movie barely encompasses even 3/4 of the first book, and since it came out about many many years before the series was completed, the story is completely different. _________________ 'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

Same here, but the new release is definitely superior! _________________ 'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

| You'll get no argument from me on that front. As much as I liked the dubbed anime that first came out, the one that Disney put out is much better. To some Disney may be the evil empire but they have great taste and for some fun that can be a little mindless, there are few other bits of eye candy that are better for the whole family. |

I nominate SavageGamerGirl to write up a Savage Worlds version of "Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind".
Any seconds?

No way I could do that to Erica; she's far too nice to spring something like that on, as a fan base.
Now, if she were being paid to write it, that's a different discussion. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

There's not much that needs to be done for Savage Worlds, which is why I haven't really bothered.
As far as the psionics go, except for the Dorok Princes most psionics are fairly low-level and fit quite well with the scale of Savage Worlds. You can just use the Psionics AB as written. There might be a few powers to prohibit (like Teleport, Fly, etc.), but most powers should be appropriate for the setting.
Unlike True20, Savage comes with vehicle combat and chase rules, so that part's done.
The only work that you'd have to do is coming up with stats for the giant insects, and anyone who's seen the anime or read the manga knows that if you're encountering them, you're in for a world of hurt anyway. _________________ 'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

| Anyone foolish to take on the bugs in Nausicaa's world is either foolhardy or has the Death Wish hindrance, whether it's on their character sheet or not. |

Maybe use the vehicle rules? Give them Heavy Armor? In Nausicaa's world this might be just about right.
What do you think? _________________

I'd definitely give the Ohmu Heavy Armor, but I'm not sure about the others.
The only other thing to do really would be to stat out the vehicles, but that shouldn't be too difficult. _________________ 'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

Has anyone else read the book "World War Z?"
It is a very different take on the zombie apocalypse. It seems to do well at covering the global impact of something like this, also things don't shut down entirely they're more stalled out. For example, the government and military don't ever shut down completely, they let the zombies have most of the country while they gather survivors in... Colorado I think? Somewhere anyway, and eventually they develop anti-zombie tactics and weapons and fight back against them.
I know zombies are overdone, but from what I remember by the time of the framing device (a reporter gathering accounts of the history of the Z War) the zombies (I think they're called ghouls or just "Z") are more of an obstacle or hazard than the enemy. The enemies are in fact largely other human factions.
It seems like it could be a good way to give some life into the zombie thing since it would take place after the initial "apocalypse" and is now in the re-building stage. _________________ TIGER, tiger, burning bright

Or the Newsflesh series. Post Zombie uprising, we won because of George Romero movies. Unlike a lot of Zombie movies and games, he made Night of the Living dead, and it saved us.
So it's post uprising, but civilization survived. Any mammal over 50 lbs that dies comes back.

| I'll second Afro Samurai. Of course you could rig it up with Iron Dynasty... |

Y'knw, actually, there are a lot of things I don't like about Iron Dynasty. I kinda feel like, in order to create a specific flavor, they moved away from the Fast Furious Fun kinda thing, y'know? It felt like they layered on a lot of things that could have been covered in the SWD. Just my opinion though.
We are actually doing a conversion of Afro Samurai here, using the SWD mostly, and I must say, it feels and plays pretty well so far. We're not quite done yet, but when we are, I'll let you guys know... _________________ "Anything smaller is just fiddly, and fiddly is not one of SvgW's three Fs..." |
