So,
Has anyone savaged Elizabeth Moon's "The deed of Paksanarian (sp?)?
I thought it would make a good candidate when I first read it years ago, and now that the new books in the seris have been released I'm thinking about it again.
So any ideas?

It's pretty much straight fantasy. Elves, Dwarves, Paladins, Clerics, wizard, fighters.
Per wikipedia, the idea actually came from bad roleplaying, moon had heard how people were playing paladins, and didn't think it made sense. |

As for savaging it, I'd suggest starting with a low magic setting and tweaking the magic flavor to fit. If you want to maintain accuracy, you'll want to up the grittiness making wounds difficult to recover from. Races would have a few different physical abilities but major differences in culture and outlook. Most seem insular as well.
Could be a fun project if you've the time. |

Just use the normal recovery penalties. Travel, inadequate medical care, and bad weather are an additional -6 to your recovery roll, beyond the penalties from the wounds themselves.
With very few doctors (and abysmal medical practices that have all the wrong tools, for a -4 no-tools / -2 bad tools penalty) and no healing magic you'll see a lot of injuries carry over beyond the Golden Hour. After that, the system makes it incredibly hard to heal without good medical help. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

Rereading the Deed of Paksenarrion with an eye towards savaging it.
I'm currently thinking about the Marshals and Paladins of Gird.
Would it be safe to say that the Marshals are the clerics of Gird?
I'm thinking their powers would include healing, light and shielding, and they can apparently stop a weapon in mid-blow.
For Paladins I'm thinking healing, light and detect evil. Probably only great evil or that gets out of hand REAL fast.
Any other suggestions or things I missed?
Thanks
