|

Hi Folks
We moved lately from Deadlands Classic to DLR, and one aspect I neglected was the fine tuning of powers.
What I mean is, although any Blessed basically should have access to any power (which is applicable to Blessed), we have one posse member who started game as an "apprentive voodooist". That meant she only had a few spells available and since she was not travelling any near New Orleans, she had to stay at that level for a while.
Now with the new rules, I'd like to keep that up, i.e. defining with her player what powers she's capable of and which not (until she finally spends some time in N.O. again)...
One thing we were all most fond off was the "Favored Chual" option (she had picked Ogu), all other spells will nicely translate.
So my question to this fine broad audience is, did anybody ever create any house rules for allowing the "favored chual" deal? Maybe even ideas for Ogu in particular? I thought of giving her the Berserk edge, but maybe somebody has even better ideas...
And if somebody modified the list of available powers for a voodooist, please share those as well.
Cheers, Marshal G _________________ nothing's forgotten, nothing's ever forgotten... |

well the list of powers she has access to is all of those that the blessed has + the powers given by the voodoo edge so its quite a bit.

Elemental manipulation should be Air and water only for blessed (voodoo gain fire as well) |

| Sorry, never played with voodoo in the old system so dont have any I can help you with and I don't know if I have River O Blood anymore but I do have Hexarcana so I will see if there is any ideas I can throw your way, I did create correlations for my Whateley so his spells felt more like the original blood magic and gave him an additional Edge to simulate the original powers of the Whateley's |

NOT THAT ANYBODY HAS TO CARE (writing this down more for myself )
I decided to take it as a house rule now that she gets "call Ogu to take over" as a Novice rank miracle and it then having the same effect as the Berserk edge (so the difference is she can call it on purpose instead of getting a wound caused on her). If she fails the roll, nothing happens, if she rolls a natural 1 on her faith roll, instead of a crisis of faith, the petro loa takes over, also making her stronger and tougher in battle, but being controlled by the Marshal. To end the miracle, she has to roll the Smarts as in Berserk.
Finally, if she calls the miracle successfully but then the fight doesn't happen or is ended prematurely, she's at least "p***ed", if not going against her own people.
As I said, I tried to catch the favored chual - Ogu rule from the Classic rules in River of Blood.
The reason why I am so keen on that is that our posse had so much fun with it when we stilled played the classic rules. In the midst of the battle at L.A. in The Flood, she went for Ogu's help and went bust. And our catholic brother Laurentius, who had always been suspicious of her, went rampage on her instead of fighting against the hordes of enemies. In the end, I ruled that this dire fight was even what saved them from the "thing" that fell out of the sky soon after and helped them escape unharmed, not knowing afterwards what exactly had happened to them... _________________ nothing's forgotten, nothing's ever forgotten... |

I like that solution. Simple, elegant, and straightforward.
You could even expand it as a whole new spell.
"Call the Loa"
Blah, blah, mechanics.
Voodoo only.
Agwe - Aquatic trait
Baron Samedi - Divination power, consulting the dead
Damballah-Wedo - immune to poison, +1 parry
Ezili-Freda-Dahomey - +2 Charisma
Legba - Speak Languages effect, all languages
Loco - +2 on all Healing rolls (arcane or mundane)
Ogu - Berserk _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."
