Sorry if this has been asked before.

Is there a recommended order, either chronologically or in terms of encounter difficulty, for the Deadlands campaign books? Which one would be best for a noob starting out?

Are you talking about Classic or Reloaded? I'm guessing Classic because Reloaded has only the one Plot Point (The Flood) out right now.

Classic, courtesy of Jonah Hex (not that Jonah Hex... I don't think):

Jonah Hex wrote:
I believe that, of the major Metaplot adventures, the Devil's Tower trilogy probably goes first. It definitely takes place before Canyon o' Doom and the Gomorra trilogy.

Independence Day (July 1876)

Devil's Tower trilogy ('77)

Canyon o Doom (Summer '77)

Ghostbusters - Rain o' Terror - Dead Presidents ('78 )

Most splat book and dime novel adventures go somewhere in between ID and Devil's Tower but since most of them don't involve the metaplot it is not really an issue.

For Reloaded, NFNN is correct that only the first one's out so far, but the others are on the way and will fall out like this:

The Flood (1879-1880)
The Last Sons (1880-1881)
Stone and a Hard Place (1881-1882)
[Hellstromme/Pestilence] (1882-1883)

Ah-ha! No worries. Very Happy

Nope, there's no set chronological order to the Reloaded adventures and Savage Tales. Coffin Rock, Murder on the Hellstromme Express, Don't Drink the Water, Night Train 2, and the various Savage Tales in The Flood, South o' the Border, The Great Northwest, and Great Weird North (did I get 'em all?) can be played at any time, in any order.

Difficulty tends to vary even within books, but any one of our Deadlands One Sheet Adventures on the downloads page would probably be a good fit for a new posse.

Having just (literally in the last 30 minutes) finished taking my posse through Murder on the Hellstromme Express I can heartily advise it as an excellent introduction to the game.

Great way of getting some deep characterisation and seeing how the steampunk meets the wild west (allowing the introduction of the supernatural later).
