So I bought the core rule book and the horrors book but am kind of frustrated with the limited number of monsters for my players to fight. Do you guys think that it would be fair to use monsters from D&D? Do the CR's match up?

Generally, the best foes in the setting are other humans. Bandits, raiders, enemy soldiers, and so forth.

If you wanted to use creatures from other d20 sources you could, but some consideration will be required. Damage Reduction will be a lot more powerful, and any "Save or Die" abilities (flesh to stone, only-magic-can-cure diseases like mummy rot, etc.) and spell-like abilities will be a lot stronger due to very limited countermeasures.
Melee monsters will generally seem weaker, until they get to face-eating range, when they will be horrific (only miss on a natural 1, even with the eighth attack).
Doable, but you'll need to look at each one carefully.
