Okay, maybe this doesn't belong here (in case there is none):
Is there a setting for Savage Worlds that emulates Wuxia/Wulin/Jianghu?

I've noticed that there are oriental style settings popping up, e.g. Iron Dynasty, but this is rather an emulation of Japan, not China.

There's also some fan-generated stuff like http://www.wjs3.com/rpg/sw/Savage%20Wuxia!.pdf, but this doesn't completely capture the spirit I'm looking for.

There are some core elements to Wuxia that I'd like to see (and notice, this is my personal preference, not all important Wuxia features):
- The setting is based on ancient China, not Japan (kind of "Qin" vs. "L5R").
- There should be several different, a little over the top-ish martial arts styles that are characterized by animal names and that compete with each other ("My Tiger kung fu is more powerful than your Snake kung fu!").
- The heroes should live in an "outside society". They have to defend "normal life" against crime and barbarism, therefore have to become as brutal as the enemy and thus have to step outside of society.
- Their society is more egalitarian, more merit based, than the society they defend.

Any such games available or in the works?

So of course, if there's no such setting by a third party, then this thread belongs into the homebrew section.

Thanks for your feedback!

Well, some of your requirements can be found in the martial arts style in Deadlands: reloaded. Martial art are a part of the setting, but not the main theme of the game.

Iron Dynasty: way of the ronin, meets some but not all of your criteria for Wuxia. However, it would be extremely easy to modify it to do exactly what you want; so I'd start with that.

I am unaware of any Wuxia settings. Several have elements listed (Deadlands martial artists are almost exclusively Chinese) but I don't know of any Savage Setting that meets your criteria - in most cases some previous heroes failed and the world currently sucks (removing the "protects the rest of the world from the wuxia world" element).

The mechanics in Iron Dynasty could be easily adapted for a wuxia-style game with no problem. It sounds like you've got your own ideas for a mythical China so I wouldn't see that as an obstacle for you.

Best,

Sean

I still have to balance out whether I want to go more Arcane Background with the styles ... but Iron Dynasty definitely is a good starting point for the genre, thanks.

I remember you telling us about that one before. Shame that dream ended when it did.
