|

Hi veteran 50F GMs. We've just started a 50F campaign and I was hoping for advice from others regarding how to proceed after a first adventure. To date my GMing style has been admittedly linear; I either take, adapt or write from scratch a whole scenario in advance, prepare and then set the PCs loose. 50F is much more open than that and I have no experience in how to run such an open game where the PCs run the show. I'm certainly not used to GMing on the fly.
Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to progress from here to keep things going (apart from just relying on the random encounter tables)? I chose a different starting point for the campaign, namely the northern Whip Islands and the party is about to hit Caresia.
Thanks in advance - LK _________________ Visit Tales from Karickbridge on Obsidian Portal, oh and Savage Legend - The Blog |

| As well as the Savage Tales in 50F, make up some of your own which can be be used wherever they go. If you make up some tied to certain locations be prepared for that tale not to be used but see if it could be recycled. Try to introduce events/characters which have an effect on the future even if they do not interact with that tale. I am sure that the players will pay more attention if they learn that NPCs pick up treasure from a clue that they ignored. Get used to players ignoring plot links but consider their viewpoint as to whether they had enough information to make a valid judgement re tha possibilities presented by your clues, Ian |

Check out the 50 Fathoms Companion pdf, or wait for the new 50 Fathoms Explorer's Edition. As I recall from Shane, that material is to be included. Either way, the 50 F Companion adds more things to do at each locale. Not to mention, extra adventures, weapons, equipment, and the like. Great stuff. I also reccomend the 50 figure flats. I hope to start a new group on 50 F, partly because I want to actually finish the damned plot point. It's truly one of Pinnacle's best. |

I went the whole hog anyway and bought the companion and flats at the time. The info regarding the 50F update sounds exciting as well. In the meantime I'm browsing DriveThruRPG for city encounter lists etc. _________________ Visit Tales from Karickbridge on Obsidian Portal, oh and Savage Legend - The Blog |
