| Dollar store, and Party City are good for bugs, critters and random stuff. I buy a lot of Horrorclix from Strikezoneonline.com. I usually get about a dozen minis at a time from them, pay more for shipping than I did on the minis. They also carry a ton of D&D, Heroclix, and Star Wars. |

I always check the Game Store first, but they can't always meet my bizarre needs. Still, I just ordered a set of ten Indy Heroclix for use with Iron Dynasty. (From the comic Shi).
With shipping, I'm paying like, $15. I'm okay with those prices. |

I used to be able to buy single miniatures at a few LGS's (actually collected a complete SWMini Clone Strike set that way), but that hasn't been the case for about 3 years now. There's a still a few monthly tournaments for SWMini and D&DMini's being run at LGS's and you can often trade or buy from the players - takes a lot of coordinating though. Heroclix singles for some reason seem to be much more available, which is fine by me because as someone already mentioned they work well in a number of settings.
I've bought online a number of times. The already mentioned miniaturemarket.com has been good, but I've dealt with coolstuffinc.com more often because they have buy back lists which can really help cut down on costs. I haven't tried paper figs yet, but those displayed here look more than decent so I might give that a go. |

I really like paper figures, whether they are tri-fold or tent-type. Here's the construction technique I use (using all acid-free materials):
1) print them out on quality ink jet paper
2) spray the sheet with a workable fixative (makes it pretty water-resistant)
3) glue the sheet (with a spray glue) to a sheet of Bristol (a heavy drawing paper); let dry
4) trim them out with an x-acto & straight edge, lightly scoring the fold lines
5) fold and crease folds with a burnisher
6) glue tabs with Best-Test One Coat rubber cement, with a final crimping/pressing with flat pliers
This results in a nice solid cardboard kind of feeling for them.
P.S. To really make them beer-proof, one could also add an optional step:
3.5) spray both sides with an acrylic varnish, let dry |

But, Ornimancer, doesn't all these steps jack up the price of the end result?
Printer ink, quality paper, fixative, spray glue, Bristol paper, Burnisher, rubber cement, (optional) beer-proofing, time involved... all adds up.
Don't get me wrong, if I was going to do the paper miniatures I would most certainly give your method a try. I think it's the best method I've heard to date. _________________

The sad thing is, I just can't carry around minis for every occasion, even the pogs start to take up considerable room in my pack. In an effort to make my gaming more mobile, I'm thinking of creating 20 generic pogs for baddies and 10 for good guys.
Maybe I'll use generic pogs for mooks and just have wild card pogs that represent the baddies. _________________ My Savage Worlds Blog
