Can a character take Immunity: Kinetic (so bullets and punching) and/or Immunity: Slashing (so swords and knives)

If so, what happens if that character is hit by an "electric punch"?

What damage is done by the trappings of the electric punch? It could be electrical, kinetic or perhaps a bit of both.

I have a character who has blades of psychic energy that extend from his fists. I decided that the trappings would deal the damage like this: Strength die (punch) is kinetic and the attack melee power (psychic blades) does psychic damage. Immunities work with the damage as appropriate.

Not as listed since the power states...

"Your character has limited immunity against a particular matter or energy based attack, such as air/wind, cold/ice, fire/heat, radiation, darkness, light, steel, wood and so on."

Kinetic and Slashing are not particular forms of matter, which is the effect sought, Immunity to a form of physical damage. Though a similar option would be Immunity to flesh/bone for punching or to steel for most swords and knives (and steel-jacketed bullets).

A GM might allow such options with reductions to the power effects as a trapping or with a Modifier to increase the cost, so as to adjust for the increased effectiveness.

Of course, it really depends on the exact power, effect, and the trapping, but presuming the character has Immunity to the punch and the power described would be Attack, Melee with an electrical trapping, simply halve the damage from the Strength die and apply the full damage from the dice from Attack, Melee.

So Absorption can protect against Kinetic, Slashing, Fire, Cold, etc... while Immunity can protect against Fire, Cold, but not against Kinetic / Slashing.
This way Kinetic and Slashing are considered "energy" for Absorption, but not for Immunity. (It seems a little confusing)

Correct, the powers have similarities but differences as well. The matter option of Immunity would be kind of pointless if Kinetic and Slashing were allowed energy types.

Ok.
Beside it seems to me that an Absorption: Kinetic is much more useful than say an Absorption: Sound
I think a good example is in the Altered Form power (energy form vs solid form): the armor bonus can be against Energy (wave or particle) or Physical (kinetic)

Well, in a "standard" superhero game, an hero firing "bullets" is just common as hero shooting "flame waves", or "ice shards" or "soundwaves". So it's just a roulette... sometime you can be lucky and you have to fight against an enemy that have your absorpted type of "energy".
Common guns, from common enemies (thieves, cops etc.) usually they are not so dangerous, 'cause you need just a "simple" point of Heavy Weapon armor to negate'em all.

About the Altered Form, I think it's a different type of bonus, with different mechanics and costs, so it's not easily comparable.

Immunity gives you "half damage vs X", Altered Form give you "+4 armor vs X (broad category)".
Yes they are different, but not that much (I think).

Though not specifically listed amongst the examples given, kinetic is none-the-less a form of energy. Besides, at least one character in the Rogue's Gallery of the Super Powers Companion has Immunity:Kinetic.

Hammer (page 73) has "Immunity: Kinetic. Takes half damage from fists, bullets and blunt weapons".

I am also confused by this.

Yeah, I would be too. Shouldn't be Immunity; change it to Absorption and he gets the Vigor roll to reduce such damage.

Why isn't kinetic a form of energy? Pretty sure kinetic energy exists in the real world. Smile

So, the only way for Immunity to work against "kinetic" is to take the nearly complete coverage modifier and not exclude metal, wood, or flesh/bone etc..?

Well, there is this part from earlier...

But Nearly Complete Coverage could work as well, or more specifically to only be immune to kinetic and no energy at all, another Modifier based off NCC like...

All Matter/Energy (x3): The character's Immunity applies to either all matter or all energy attacks. They must choose one, and the other affects them normally. This Modifier cannot be taken with Nearly Complete Coverage.

Okay,
Thank you. I have another immunity question... Tempest has immunity: Electricity and Attack ranged with the lighting elemental trick. He blasts Tesla, who has Absorbtion: Electricity and reflection for 3 wounds which Tesla reflects back. Does Tempest suffer 1.5 wounds?

Well, he'd suffer 1 wound; there's no such thing as half a wound.
