My group is starting a Legends of Steel campaign: the Shadows of Yar.

We're using the Fame (renamed to Glory) and Infamy points used in Pirates of the Spanish Main.

We're using the spell casting system from Solomon Kane, the Hedge Magic rules from Hellfrost, and the Alchemy Edge from the Fantasy Companion.

We're using the Fate Chip system from Deadlands: Reloaded instead of Bennies.

Yeah, Savage Worlds rules.

I also stole the calendar from the World of Greyhawk, though I renamed the days.

What follows is the tale of our heroes:

Legends of Steel: Shadows of Yar

Campaign Journal, Session 1

Real World Date: Friday February 25, 2011

Campaign World Date: Amarday to Vandday, 2-4 Fireseek, 1,000 FF (From the Founding of Tyros City)

The Party

Danny

Agar. An attractive barbarian from the Ice Spires. He wears a loin cloth and a bear skin cloak complete with the bear’s head.

Eric

Dar. An attractive beastmaster and shapechanger from the Erendor Forest. He wears naught but a loin cloth. He is accompanied by a wolf. Dar is also capable of turning into a wolf.

Heath

THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!. A brawny, attractive barbarian from the Ice Spires. He wears naught but a loin cloth. He seeks Selina, the daughter of his friend Salidaar. Selina was kidnapped by a scoundrel named Joubert.

Rob

Jaden Spellbind. A wizard with a stuttering problem. He seeks revenge on a man named Joubert. The wizard wields the Staff of Spell Binding, a family heirloom and a powerful magical item.

Thomas

Rohan. A rogue who has the brand of the thief on his forehead.

The Tale

Background

• The party is in Pyrani, the City of Giants. It is the largest and richest city on Terris and possibly on Erisa.

• All of the heroes seek a scoundrel by the name of Joubert, who committed some heinous crime against them or against someone or something important to them. They all want Joubert dead, either by their own hand or by the King’s Justice.

• Joubert is currently leading the River Rats, a group of pirates attacking merchant barges on the Lil River. Local merchants have seen their profits slashed due to Joubert’s depredations. One such businessman is Dagoberto, a wine merchant and one of the richest men in one of the richest cities of the world. He has decided to take matters into his own hands.

• Dagoberto owns a winery a mile or so outside of the city walls. He had summoned the party there to discuss hiring them to bring Joubert down. A rich man would be a powerful ally in the party’s quest to bring down Joubert.

Dagoberto’s Winery

• The party fought an epic battle against mercenaries, who were out to kill Dagoberto.

• The leader of the mercenaries was taken down by multiple party members. Just before he died, he confessed that a man named Obadiah Smith had hired him and his band to kill Dagoberto. Obadiah owns a tavern in Pyrani called the Queen of Cups.

• After the combat, there was some excellent role-playing by the group as they convinced Dagoberto to hire them.

• Dagoberto showed the party a bottle of wine: Lady Kelsey Red, a unique and very expensive brand. Only 12 bottles had ever been made and all 12 had been on one of Dagoberto’s barges headed upriver to Ranen’s Ford. That barge had been attacked and taken by Joubert and the River Rats. Dagoberto had bought the bottle from Antar, a retired gladiator who now owned a pub down by the docks. Dagoberto had tried to find out from whom Antar had bought the bottle. Antar refused to divulge the secret.

Slumming It in Pyrani

• Before confronting Antar, the party went bar hopping, looking for info. They discovered that Joubert and the River Rats targeted only the richest of barges and boats, so the pirates must have inside info.

• The party also discovered something super secret: there was a shipment of pleasure slaves leaving in a couple of days for Ranen’s Ford. This was the type of cargo that Joubert would definitely target. Captain Blenheim was the man in charge of the shipment.

• Rohan got drunk and Thomas rolled on the Carousing Table. Rohan met a foppish, charismatic gentleman named Waltus Dred. Waltus claimed that he knew how to remove the thief brand from Rohan’s forehead. Rohan was so excited that he pledged his life, his fortune, and his sacred honor to Waltus. They agreed to meet later to discuss details.

• Dar got drunk and Eric rolled on the Carousing Table. Dar ended up owning the tavern in which he was drinking. He also ended up owing a 1,000 Crowns (Gold Pieces) in back taxes.

• Dar, being an uncivilized beastmaster, went to Dagoberto for an explanation. Dagoberto said that Dar was in a financial predicament. However, Dagoberto could set up Dar on a regular monthly payment plan with low interest, based on Dar’s credit history, of course. Dar, confused by Dagoberto’s words, threw the deed into the fireplace, where it was quickly consumed. Upon seeing this, Dagoberto seemed to suffer a stroke or heart attack. While the wine merchant was distracted, Dar and the rest of the party left.

Antar’s Pub

• In Pyrani, Antar’s Pub is known as a “fighting house.” There is a raised platform in the middle of the barroom. Contestants fight each other using cesti. It’s a bloody game but rarely fatal. There is much drinking and gambling amongst the patrons.

• Agar volunteered to enter the ring. He knocked out his opponent but had his nose broken in return.

• Jaden, the wizard, convinced Antar to fight him. They stepped into the ring and Jaden cast Slumber at the ex-gladiator. For a second, it looked as if Antar would fall, but he was made of sterner stuff than most men. Shaking off the spell, Antar let out a roar and charged. He hit the frail wizard and knocked Jaden out cold.

• Antar retired to his office. THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Dar strode boldly up to the door and went in, to gasps of astonishment of the crowd that anyone could be so bold.

• The two attractive barbarians found Antar at his desk, crying. He yelled and ordered them out. Instead, THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! told Antar his sad story. Dar, too, told his mournful tale to the retired gladiator. Antar then confessed that no one loved him and that he was tired of fighting.

• The three manly men had a group hug and a good cry, followed by a very awkward moment after they released each other from their mutual embrace.

• Antar told THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Dar that he had bought the bottle of Lady Kelsey Red from Jonah, a clerk who worked in the Hall of the River Lord.

Jonah’s House

• It was close to midnight when the party left Antar’s and made their way to the Hall of the River Lord. The building was closed.

• Another pub crawl and a couple of hours later, the party had Jonah’s home address. They went to the clerk’s residence, broke in, roused Jonah from his sleep, and intimidated the man so badly that he soiled himself.

• Jonah acknowledged that he was a fence for the River Rats. Once a month or so, a trader named Gretchen would arrive in Pyrani with a boat full of goods plundered by the River Rats. She sold the goods to Jonah. He in turn sold them on Pyrani’s black market. Jonah claimed that Gretchen lived in the town of Bloodwater in Harrow Swamp.

• THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! punched Jonah unconscious and the party left. Agar stole an ashtray on the way out.

Cliffhanger Ending

• As the party left Jonah’s house, they saw figures coming out of the shadows all around them. Steel glinted in the moonlight. It seems that the actions of our heroes have not gone unnoticed.

Great story, thanks for sharing! Tavern rules seem really fun in practice, although I can think of some options disrupting the game somewhat. On the other hand, it might be an opportunity to introduce temporary characters played by players while the actual character struggles to find his way out of being recruited in navy.

I've also planned to use Kane sorcery the day I get to start LoS campaign. Those other rules look also interesting, but I don't think I'll be getting whole books just for one rule.

Brand of the thief= outsider -flaw? It's interesting how flexible some of the flaws in the system are!

Regarding the Carousing Tables (there is one in the book and a longer one on the web site Lair of the Evil DM), yes, there is a potential for disrupting a game session. I thought about not using a Carousing Table, but I just couldn't resist.

To look at it in another light, a disruption to a game session can be a good thing. We now have two plot hooks thrown randomly into the campaign: Rohan has pledged his service to a stranger and Dar has made enemies of the Guild of Debt and Tax Collectors. I have no idea how these hooks will play out. But I'm sure it will be Fun! and probably Furious! (but maybe not necessarily Fast!)

The Brand Minor Hindrance is actually from Solomon Kane, but yes, it is functionally equivalent to the Outsider Hindrance.

Legends of Steel: Shadows of Yar

Campaign Journal, Session 2

Real World Date: Friday March 11, 2011

Campaign World Date: Vandday, 4 Fireseek, to Sunday, 8 Fireseek, 1,000 FF (From the Founding of Tyros City)

The Party

Danny

Jack

Alzar. A charismatic thief with a mysterious past. He and Rohan are old adventuring companions.

Thomas

Rohan. A rogue who has the brand of the thief on his forehead.

Background

• All of the heroes seek a scoundrel by the name of Joubert, who committed some heinous crime against them or against someone or something important to them. They all want Joubert dead, either by their own hand or by the King’s Justice.

• Joubert is currently leading the River Rats, a group of pirates attacking merchant barges on the Lil River.

• Last session the party uncovered the following plot hooks:

o A shipment of pleasure slaves was leaving the city of Pyrani for the city of Ranen’s Ford. An expensive shipment like this is exactly what Joubert would target.

o A man named Jonah acts as a fence for the River Rats. The party intimidated Jonah into revealing that a woman named Gretchen would show up about once a month with a boat laden with ill-gotten booty. Jonah would pay her and then sell the items on the black market. Gretchen was from a town called Bloodwater, which was located in the Harrow Swamp.

The Tale

Fight in the Streets of Pyrani

• A skeletal figure, armored in plate and wielding a fearsome looking two-handed sword; and a gang of cultists awaited the party as they left Jonah’s house. Dar shapechanged into a dire wolf, charged the undead horror, and succeeded in tearing out its undead throat. Crippled, the undead monster quickly fell to the blows of the rest of the party. The cultists fled when their undead master died.

• The two-handed sword wielded by the skeletal warrior turned out to be magical. It was dedicated to Hala, the goddess of death.

The Barge of Pleasure Slaves

• The party decided that the best way to find Joubert was to hire on as guards on the barge shipping pleasure slaves north to Ranen’s Ford.

• The heroes went in search of Ragnar, the riverman who had told Agar about the shipment of pleasure slaves. The barbarian and the riverman had hit it off quite well, and Agar was sure that his friend would vouch for the rest of the party to get hired as guards.

• The fight with the undead horror ended about 3:00 AM, but the party refused to rest. Agar led them to the flophouse where he had said goodbye to Ragnar several hours before. After some grumbling from the proprietor of the flophouse about it being 3:00 AM, the party was let in. Agar found his friend, and they made plans to visit Ragnar’s captain, a man called Blenheim, in the morning.

• The party met Captain Blenheim and convinced him to take them aboard as guards. The barge was named the Mildred.

• During the voyage upriver, the party shared stories about their past. [I pulled out the Interludes rules and made the party entertain me.]

The Ambush

• The Mildred travelled upriver for two days. Near Harrow Swamp, there was a loud thump from below the barge and it suddenly started travelling into the swamp. Oars snapped as the crew tried desperately to row against whatever force was moving them.

• The barge was pulled into a sunken temple, the roof of which had collapsed. Pillars marked the former boundaries of the temple. Joubert and the River Rats stood on the tops of these pillars, covering the barge with crossbows. Joubert had on a strange green, turtle shaped helm. The eyes of the turtle helm glowed red.

• The party, hired to guard the barge, decided not to fight or to surrender. THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! threw a dagger at the pirates. They returned fire with their crossbows. THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! fell into the water, seemingly dead. The barbarian had actually fallen into the water on purpose. Alive and well, he secretly made his way to the back of the boat and held on to the anchor chain.

• The rest of the party ran into the cabin of the Mildred and hid. Captain Blenheim, deserted by his guards, surrendered. He and his crew were stranded in Harrow Swamp as Joubert and the River Rats took command of the barge.

Bloodwater

• The River Rats piloted (by what, the party still did not know) the Mildred to the town of Bloodwater. The town was located in a lagoon in Harrow Swamp, the buildings sitting above the water on a framework of poles.

• The pirates docked the barge and started unloaded the pleasure slaves and other cargo into canoes with the help of the townspeople. Joubert, several female pleasure slaves, and several River Rats got into a canoe and started rowing deeper into Harrow Swamp.

• One by one, the heroes moved out of their hiding places. Agar and Alzar brazenly joined the people loading the canoes, acting as if they belonged. Rohan started loading another canoe. THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! swam across the lagoon, daring anyone to spot him, to see where Joubert was going. Dar and his wolf companion swam across the lagoon to join THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!. The wolf was not happy about the swim, so Dar had to swim with the wolf on his back. A townsmen spotted the pair and was about ready to raise the alarm. Thinking quickly, Alzar convinced the man that what looked like a man swimming with a wolf on his back was actually just a log.

• After loading a canoe, Agar and Alzar jumped in and started rowing. Two pleasure slaves and two River Rats joined them. Rohan followed in the next canoe. THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Dar followed the canoes on land. At a bend in the channel, while unseen by other canoes, Agar dispatched the two River Rats in the canoe.

The Encampment

• The canoes eventually reached an encampment perched on a bluff. Joubert was nowhere to be seen. Agar, Alzar, and Rohan quickly discovered that Joubert, along with several female pleasure slaves and a number of River Rats, had rowed onto “the Secret Lair.”

• The three heroes in the camp were quickly found out, as no one recognized them. Madoc, Joubert’s lieutenant, was impressed by the audacity of the heroes and decided not to kill them outright. Instead, he offered them a job if they could each pass a test.

• The Test of Combat. Alzar had to fight Vitar, a defrocked priest of Kesh, the god of war. Vitar crushed the thief with a mighty blow. Somehow, Alzar remained standing. Impressed, Madoc ordered Vitar to spare the thief’s life.

• The Test of Agility. Agar had to walk across a narrow beam suspended over a pit full of alligators. The beam was rigged so that is swayed mightily the closer one got to the other side. Despite this, Agar succeeded in crossing the pit.

• The Test of Skill. Rohan had to put his hand inside of a box and pick a lock sight unseen. If he failed, a blade inside the box would cut off his hand. Rohan, too, passed the test.

• While the other party members undertook their tests, THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Dar moved in the shadows, killing off a dozen of the River Rats who lingered in the back of the group of spectators watching the tests.

• Then THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Dar attacked. The remaining River Rats turned to see a large number of their comrades already dead and two blood spattered barbarians flexing their muscles and screaming insults. The River Rats broke and fled. Madoc and Vitar stood their ground. They were eventually captured when the pleasure slaves swarmed and overwhelmed them. [Someone played the “Here Comes the Cavalry” Adventure Card. The only reinforcements available were the pleasure slaves.]

• In exchange for his life, Madoc gave up the location of “the Secret Lair.” It lay about 5 miles to the northwest, on a hill called the Wart. An old Zovan hillfort called Skoridan sat on top of the hill.

Cliffhanger Ending

• Alzar heard a noise outside the camp perimeter and went to investigate. A horrible plant monster attacked him. Screaming like a little girl, Alzar was pulled into the mass of the plant. Then the mound of vegetation shambled forward to attack and eat the rest of the party.

Open Plot Hooks

Kill Joubert or Bring Him to Justice

The party actually saw Joubert. So close and yet so far away.

15 Pleasure Slaves

The party is in the middle of a deadly swamp with 15 pleasure slaves. The pleasure slaves have all sorts of skills but none of them will help them survive in a swamp.

Madoc and Vitar, prisoners

The party took Joubert’s lieutenants captive. Madoc coughed up the location of Joubert’s Secret Lair. Should the party spare these two curs?

Captain Blenheim, Ragnar, and the rest of the crew of the Mildred

They were left stranded in Harrow Swamp. Will the party find the crew and help get them out of the swamp?

It's the Evil DM! It's an honor to know that you're reading about our adventures.

By now, you're probably bored with receiving compliments. I still want to say that Legends of Steel is a wonderful piece of writing and imagination. My players and I are having a blast!

Campaign World Date: Sunday, 8 Fireseek, to Amarday, 9 Fireseek, 1,000 FF (From the Founding of Tyros City)

The Roll of Heroes

Eric

Dar. An attractive beastmaster and shapechanger from the Erendor Forest. He wears naught but a loin cloth. He is accompanied by a wolf. Dar is also capable of turning into a wolf. Dar seeks revenge on a scoundrel named Joubert, who had slaughtered Dar’s pack and enslaved the beastmaster.

Heath

THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!. A brawny, attractive barbarian from the Ice Spires. He wears chain mail and wields an impressive looking two-handed sword. He seeks Selina, the daughter of his friend Salidaar. A scoundrel named Joubert had slaughtered THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!’s tribe and kidnapped Selina.

Joe

Marvin. A pimp who runs with 5 pleasure slaves. A scoundrel named Joubert absconded with Marvin’s pleasure slaves. Marvin wants them back.

Thomas

Rohan. A rogue who has the brand of the thief on his forehead. He seeks revenge on a scoundrel named Joubert. This man betrayed Rohan and kidnapped Rohan’s master, Alagare, for unknown purposes.

What Has Come Before

• All of the heroes seek a scoundrel by the name of Joubert, who committed some heinous crime against them or against someone or something important to them. They all want Joubert dead, either by their own hand or by the King’s Justice.

• Joubert is currently leading the River Rats, a group of pirates attacking merchant barges on the Lil River.

• Last session the party ended up in Harrow Swamp. Somewhere within was the lair of Joubert and the River Rats. The party had just routed a contingent of River Rats and taken prisoner two of Joubert’s lieutenants.

The Tale of Heroes

Fight against a Plant Monster

• Alzar heard a noise outside the camp perimeter and went to investigate. A horrible plant monster attacked him. Screaming like a little girl, Alzar was pulled into the mass of the plant. Then the mound of vegetation shambled forward to attack and eat the rest of the party.

• One of the pleasure slaves turned out not to be a pleasure slave, but actually a pimp, of sorts. He rushed up to fight the plant monster, brandishing his cane.

• THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! was not impressed with the plant monster. He transformed himself into a lawn mower, hacking and chopping his way from one end of the plant to the other, saving Alzar, and covering everyone in sap and plant goo.

Seeking the Secret Lair

• The party released Madoc and Vitar, lieutenants of Joubert.

• Marvin introduced himself. He works with five female pleasure slaves. Joubert had stolen his slaves and taken them to the Secret Lair. Marvin wanted them back.

• The party rounded up the remaining pleasure slaves and headed for the Secret Lair, located on the Wart, a hill on top of which sat the ruins of a Zovan hillfort named Skoridan.

• The party split up when they arrived at Skoridan. THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Dar walked boldly through the front gate of the ruined hillfort. Rohan and Marvin sneaked around to the back of the hillfort.

• Rohan and Marvin found a hunting lodge behind the hillfort. They overpowered a guard and discovered a trap door in the floor of the lodge. Then they heard the sounds of fighting from the hillfort.

• THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Dar had a series of misadventures with collapsing towers. Then they awoke a swarm of giant mosquitoes. Rohan and Marvin showed up just in time to help disperse the mosquitoes. Then THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! opened the door to the largest tower in the hillfort. The tower collapsed, forcing Agility checks from everyone. All of the adventurers managed to survive having 50 tons of rock dropped on their heads.

• The party proceeded to the lodge. They opened the trap door and found a tunnel descending into the depths of the earth.

An Epic Fight in the Secret Lair

• The trap door and the tunnel beneath led to the Secret Lair, a series of caverns with a river running through them.

• An epic battle took place in the caverns. Rohan died. Dar and his wolf both fell, but survived.

• Wielding the Sword of the Grey Queen, THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! decapitated an exotic looking barbarian woman who fought beside Joubert.

• Joubert fled and locked a heavy door behind him. THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! destroyed the door with one massive kick. Then he and Joubert grappled for about an hour, while Marvin kept trying to smack Joubert with his cane.

• In the end, THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Marvin forced Joubert to capitulate. With their leader captured, the rest of the River Rats fled.

Joubert Spills the Beans

• Joe played the “Spill the Beans” Adventure Card. Joubert revealed the following information:

o Joubert confessed to being a member of the Black Hand of Nogar-Sai.

o Joubert takes most of his orders from Kalin, a Yari and a priest who worships Yago, the Demon Prince.

o Kalin is an advisor for Henry Avigton, the Baron of Kythorn.

o Joubert gave a cut of the booty to the Mauk, a tribe of inbred cannibal hillbillies in the Howling Hills. In return for gold and pleasure slaves, the Mauk would join forces with the Baron. Together, the two forces would invade the Duchy of Cotham and overthrow the Duchess Mary Eketta. The Baron would then declare himself King of Cotham.

o THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! demanded to know what happened to Selina. Joubert did not know who Selina was. The scoundrel did say that his Yari masters often sent him out to kidnapped “the Marked.” He didn’t know what that meant. “The Marked” were to be kept alive and not to be mistreated.

• THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Dar killed Joubert after his confession.

Wrapping It Up

• The party found a magic ritual circle etched into the ground. A map nearby showed a hill called Shaman’s Crown. The map gave instructions to find the Marked at the village of Broken Shield. The instructions were signed by Elslae. This was a name that Agar knew well. Of course, Agar was not with the party at the moment. He had decided to stay behind and guard the pleasure slaves.

• The party found a prisoner named Marcus, who was a pig farmer from the village of Broken Shield. He said that he had been kidnapped by a man named Montaroe, who wielded a glowing green knife. Montaroe said that Marcus was “Marked,” but Marcus had no idea what that meant. [Montaroe was an NPC from Rohan’s background. With Rohan dead, the name didn’t have quite the impact it should have.]

• Marcus had overheard Montaroe and Joubert talking about assassinating Prince Crixus. The Prince would be attending the Feast of Honir in the town of Gloucester in the Barony of Kythorn as the guest of Baron Henry Avigton.

And that’s where we ended for the night.

Agar's Background

Agar the Triumphant

Agar was born to the Tribe of the Sabertooth. His tribe is one of the strongest in the Ice Spire Mountains. They hunt the wooly mammoths as well as the giant Ice Whales of the frozen waters. Agar was said to be a miracle as the shaman of the tribe has constantly said that his mother and father would never be able to conceive a child. When Agar reached the age of 13 seasons he was sent out in the ritual of becoming to prove himself. During the ritual the young tribesmen are sent out in only their clothes and must survive for a year on their own alone and with no help from the tribe.

Agar wandered all over the mountain seeking to prove himself. It was at the end of the year that as he was making his journey back up the mountain to his tribe he heard a commotion and a scream. Agar rushed to see what was happening, and the sight surprised him. One of the soft-skinned plainsmen from the great valley below and traveled unprepared into the spire and was now paying the price. A great bear had the man trapped beneath a log and was clawing its way to get at him. It looked like the man was wounded as blood lay soaking the snow and ice everywhere. Agar never fearing anything decided to help. He rushed the bear with nothing but his bone dagger and his body. He brutally attacked over and over determined that either him or the bear would leave this patch of ice but not both.

The mighty bear lost, Agar stood over the steaming dead body of the mighty bear, covered in scratches, cuts, and bruises. The frightened plainsman slowly made his way out from the ruins of the log and started to give Agar his thanks. That's all Agar remembered because at that moment he passed out and lost consciousness. When Agar finally awoke he was in a cave filled with warmth from a small fire and the great bears pelt lay over him. The strange plainsman stood over him singing strange words, and swaying back and forth. All of Agar's wounds disappeared at that moment and he felt a great strength empower him. Agar drifted back asleep.

When he awoke the man sat next to him. The man explained that his name was Gromnar, and that he lived to the south in a place called Mount Galador deep within the Red Hills. Agar thanked the man for healing him and started to rise. The man told him that since Agar had saved his life he had saved Agar's life in return. He also told Agar that the great bear was very strong in life and that he had bestowed a gift upon Agar in death so that Agar would be strong as well. He explained that he had told the great bear spirit that he would transfer its power to Agar, but that it would cost Agar. When questioned about this Gromnar told Agar that when he was ready he should come to the Red Hills and perform a quest for the Sikkar people to repay Gromnar and the great Bear for the gift. Gromnar agreed.

For several Days Gromnar told Agar, of the place he lived and the life of his people. He told of how he had once been a great shaman for the Sikkar plainsmen but how he had been shamed and exiled from his home. Agar grew to like the foreign man. Agar explained how people from the south always came to the great spires and trouble always followed. He told him how he was wanting to bind the tribes of the spire together and to force the thin skinned men from the south to stay out of the spires and to leaves Agar's tribe and the others alone. Gromnar grew to like Agar as much as Agar liked him. They bonded to be as brothers.

On the 5th day in the middle of a chat Gromnar suddenly stood still almost as if death had taken him. He told Agar that he had a vision and that Agar must return to his tribe as a great sadness was to happen to his tribe. When Agar asked what the shaman had seen he told Agar to grab his gear and to leave now before it was to late. Agar turned to leave then turned back and embraced the man as a father would a son. He then turned and headed out into the cold.

Agar arrived to a scene that was gruesome and gory. Most of his tribe lay butchered or dying. Agar looked feverishly for his family. He found what was left of them. His father and mother had been killed. His sisters had been raped and lay dying. He kept asking her what happened but only 2 names fell from her lips. Jourbert and Elslae. It seemed strange metal skinned men had appeared out of thin air and started attacking everyone. The young were taking through a glowing light and disappeared. The old and the fighting were slaughtered. Agar now searches the world looking for the men responsible for his tribes desecration and to avenge his sisters. There are others from his tribe looking for vengeance as well, such as the strange Tharr who's adopted sister Selina was taken by these strange metal skinned men as well. Agar has partnered with them for good or for worse to destroy the invaders.

Rohan's Background

Rohan grew up on the streets of Tyros, orphaned since before he could remember. During his youth he did many things he was not proud of all to survive for just one more day. During this time he learned many things, such as picking pockets, breaking and entering, picking locks, as well as how to spot others doing the same thing. He was odd from most of the other children abandoned to the streets due to the fact that he was very agile. No matter the game the street children played he would always seem to be able to avoid them. During their long times of hiding from the guards at night and from rival street gangs Rohan developed an almost uncanny vision in the dark. It was as if he could see when others could not. Rohan found that this gave him a sufficient edge most of the times against others to manage to stay alive.

He soon attracted the attention of a strange duo of men named Alegare and Joubert. They were what was called rogue agents. This meant they belonged to no organization and worked free lance in their job. Their job.......... well they were thieves. They took Rohan under their wings so to speak and taught him all he knew. After several long years they found that they had worn out their welcome in Tyros and decided to move on.

During their travels from city to city the trio acquired and lost lots of wealth. One of the most famous of these was the heist they pulled in Aragos. The Baron was said to have in his possession much wealth and it was in a vault that was considered impenetrable. Alegare, Joubert, and Rohan took it upon themselves to relieve the Baron of some of it. In a wild hair brained stunt they broke into the Barons sealed fortress under constant lock and key surveillance and stole several pieces of jewelry. They quickly spent the acquired wealth and moved on. It wasn't until a couple of months later they found that they had stolen a ancient heirloom from the Baron.

They were in the city of Tyros and in the middle of a heist relieving a rich noble man of some overburdening wealth that he had acquired when the unthinkable happened. They had just finished and were slipping out the dwelling when a cloaked man stepped out of the night air. He just appeared from thin air and started attacking them. Alegare and Rohan fought bravely while curiously Joubert stood aloof watching, but they were no match for the man he moved unnaturally quick and deadly. The strange man overpowered Rohan knocking him towards Joubert. Joubert immediately reacted and started attacking Rohan while Alagare fought the strange man. Joubert started taunting Rohan telling how this man this Montaroe had paid him much gold to find me and Alagare and how he was going to be working for some very powerful people now instead of two bit petty thieves like us. He then faked a thrust which Rohan fell for causing Rohan to be off balanced and shoved Rohan towards the edge of the roof. Rohan slid on the loose tile making up the roof and fell only just grabbing part of the roof to keep from tumbling below. Joubert appeared over him and slowly thrust his hand towards Rohan's relieved face. Then Joubert did something that will forever haunt Rohan. He whispered in his ear “Alagare was a fool and you as well for following him, The Baron sends his regards” he then smiled and thrust Rohan off the edge of the roof, sending him tumbling from the roof to the ground below. In Rohan's last moments of consciousness he saw the strange man shoulder Alegare over his broad back handed Joubert a large bulging pouch before stepping into nothing and disappearing into thin air without a trace.

Rohan was found unconscious with some of the stolen good and immediately apprehended by the noble's guards. He was tried and convicted. The verdict was public branding across the forehead and a year incarceration. During this time Rohan had a lot of time to think about Joubert's betrayal and about the strange man who Joubert called Montaroe. Rohan was eventually released. He now searches for the mysterious man and Alegare. He has vowed to find him and free him and to kill Joubert for his betrayal. So now he searches the lands abandoning his thieving ways to find his friend.

Tharr's Background

Tharr Walks in Shadows as the Wolf

Tharr was born to Thurgan Bloodaxe. His father was the lead huntsmen for the Tribe of the Fallen Moon (Named after the lost moon of Erisa who's name is forgotten to time). Even as a small child Tharr was a fighter. He even fought his way out of the womb causing his mother to die in birthing. The shaman of the Tribe Tragan, named him “Walks in the Shadow of the Wolf” because of this. He proclaimed that Tharr be thrust out of the Tribe because of his mothers death as it was a sign of evil to come. His father would have nothing of it and begged the Tribe chief, Kargg, not to act upon the shamans words. He agreed with Thurgan and for a couple of years everything was fine.

On the end of the 10th year a strange old woman was found wandering around the foothills of the Great Ice Spire. She was brought before Kargg to be judged to stay within the Tribe or to be thrust out. Kargg asked for the guidance of both Thurgan and the shaman Tragan. The woman introduced herself simply as “The one who knows the Path” and remained silent through the meeting. After several hours Tharr begged entrance into the meeting hut to see the strange woman that was found in the middle of nowhere.

As soon as she saw him she jumped up and thrust a finger at Thurgan proclaiming that his seed would be both the end and the beginning of the Tribe of the Fallen Moon. She threw off her furs and all saw her for what she really was. She stood tall and proud naked, the wrinkles of age instantly vanished to show the the now beautiful naked body of a young woman. She was covered from head to toe in strange tattoo’s and not a single hair could be seen on her body. She pointed at Tharr and started to chant. A strange light of pure darkness opened up and grew to tower over everyone within the hut. From out of the darkness several shapes emerged. All of them dressed in the the metal skins of the thin skinned people that reside within the high stoned walls of the cities below the spires. They started attacking everyone. Women children and men alike. Tharr's last memory of his Tribe was of it being wiped out of existence.

What happened after that Tharr does not remember. His first memory is of a large man standing over him and carrying him to a place of warmth. It turned out that a neighboring Tribe, The Tribe of the Sabertooth, had seen the smoke and come to investigate. What they found was only told to Tharr after his 16th season. They found everyone in the Tribe had been eviscerated and their entrails all laid into a pile where 4 strange tattooed women writhed and moaned in. A large man who was hairless and covered in tattoo’s stood over them before laughing at the approaching men and stepping into a strange black light to disappear. The 4 women spoke as one of an impeding doom for the Tribes of the spires then all in a singular action slit their own throats and died.

The Tribes of the Sabertooth did not know what to do with Tharr if not for a hunter named Salidaar who volunteered to raise him as his own within his family. He raised Tharr as his own next to his daughter, Selina. Tharr grew to be of a very large stature of a man and hunted well for the Tribe until finally he was told of his tribes destruction. He told his foster family that he must find out what has happened to his tribe and if any were still alive. Selina asked her brother to go to the Valley of the Moon and to ask the spirits for guidence. Tharr did and spent ten turns of the moons there before having a vision. In his vision it was late one night and he saw strange hairless men surrounded by metal skinned men who were all slaughtering his tribe as well as his foster tribe. He saw them taking women of the tribes of the spire and loading them all into carts drawn by strange horses. He then saw them all being thrown into pits that had invisible things deep within them that slithered and crawled around, and of huge demons clawing and eating at his tribes sisters and brothers.

He awoke and hurried back to his tribe to find that part of his vision was true. The Tribe of the Sabertooth had been attacked but the warriors had drove them off but not before they had taken Selina as well as several other young women. Tharr vowed to the tribe and to his heartbroken foster father Salidaar to return with Selina or to never return. He then walked off from the tribe and started to search for them. He learned of the strange hairless people. They were called Yarians, and that the ones who had slaughtered his tribe and taken Selina belonged to a cult of sorcerers called The Black Hand of Nogar -Sai. They worshiped demons and devils and sacrificed the helpless and women to their dark god. He learned of a name of one of the metal skinned men. It was Joubert. Tharr had made a vow to bring back Selina and that was what he intended to do. He has been tracking down this man and intends to find where Selina and the others are before killing him. Along his way he has ran into many others that he found deserving of aid and help. Some continue to travel with him and others have moved on. Currently he travels with the soft-skinned Rohan of Tyros, and the wolf brother Darr.

Poor Rohan bit the dust last week. '#1dead' Thomas (the player) needs to learn to conserve his Fate Chips for important things like Soak or Incapacitation Rolls.

Last week the party learned that a man named Montaroe, one of Rohan's Foes, was planning to assassinate Prince Crixus, brother to the King of Tyros. With Rohan gone, I doubt any of the PCs will pursue this plot hook. None of them have any links or loyalty to Tyros.

The players have surprised me before, so you never know. Saving a prince might prove very helpful down the line.

Legends of Steel: Shadows of Yar

Campaign Journal, Session 4

Real World Date: Friday April 8, 2011

Campaign World Date: Haleneday, 10 Fireseek to Starday 12 Fireseek, 1,000 FF (From the Founding of Tyros City)

The Roll of Heroes

Eric

Dar. An attractive beastmaster and shapechanger from the Erendor Forest. He wears naught but a loin cloth. He is accompanied by a wolf. Dar is also capable of turning into a wolf. He hopes for revenge against his old master, Afzal, who leads the Iron Ring Slavers.

Heath

THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!. A brawny, attractive barbarian from the Ice Spires. He wears chain mail and wields an impressive looking two-handed sword. He seeks Selina, the daughter of his friend Salidaar. Clues indicate that a cult called the Black Hand of Nogar-Sai has taken Selina to a hill called Shaman’s Crown.

Joe

Marvin. A pimp who runs with a harem of pleasure slaves.

Thomas

Roubert da Houd. An archer from Dalan’s Forest.

What Has Come Before

• Last session the party killed their nemesis, Joubert.

• Before the scoundrel died, Joubert confessed to being a member of the Black Hand, a cult dedicated to Nogar-Sai, the Dark One, the god of undeath.

• When questioned by THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! about Selina, Joubert said that the Black Hand sought people called “the Marked.” The cult kidnapped the Marked and brought them to a hill called Shaman’s Crown. However, Joubert didn’t know why the Marked were important to the Black Hand.

• In Joubert’s Secret Lair, the party found a prisoner by the name of Marcus, who was a pig farmer from a town called Broken Shield. Marcus said that his captors told him that he was being taken to Shaman’s Crown due to his being “marked.” Marcus didn’t know what that meant.

The Tale of Heroes

Not Plundering the Secret Lair

• The party discovered a second prisoner, Roubert. He was n archer from Dalan’s Forest. He had hoped to kill Joubert, but was captured instead. The rest of the party asked Roubert to join them and the archer accepted. (This is Thomas’s new character.)

• The party equipped themselves and the pleasure slaves with weapons from Joubert’s no longer Secret Lair. Most of the ill gotten booty they left behind.

• No one in the party has any connection to Tyros. Thus, they decided to ignore the plot hooks concerning the treason of Baron Henry Avigton and the planned assassination of Prince Crixus.

• Instead, the party decided to head for Shaman’s Crown.

o THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! wants to go there to find Selina.

o Dar knows there’s a connection between the Black Hand and his former master, Afzal. Putting a hurt on the Black Hand might well hurt Afzal’s organization, the Iron Ring Slavers.

o Marvin had hopes of converting the Mauk to his cause. The Mauk were inbred cannibal hillbillies who lived in the Howling Hills, where Shaman’s Crown was located. Joubert and the Black Hand had bribed the Mauk to invade Tyros under the command of the treacherous Baron Henry Avigton.

o Roubert went along because he was a member of the party.

Fight in the Swamp

• The party left the no longer Secret Lair and were attacked by a priest and a band of cultists. The priest started casting a spell, but the party rushed him. He died before he could get the spell off.

• The priest had a collar around his neck with eight iron studs projecting out of it. The priest cluthed a chain in his dead hand. From his days as a Yari slave, Dar recognized the chain and the collar as symbols of Yago, the Demon Prince. Yago was the god worshipped by the rulers of Yar.

• After the fight with the priest of Yago, Alzar (Jack’s character and now an NPC) and Marcus the pig farmer (one of the Marked who had been found in the no longer Secret Lair) headed for the village of Broken Shield, where Marcus lived.

• Bailee and the 20 pleasure slaves decide to follow THARRRRRR!!!!!!!!!.

Into the Haunted Moor

• To reach Shaman’s Crown, the party had three choices: the shortest route was through the Haunted Moor. Longer routes went through the Schirae Forest to the south or the Lodden Hills to the north. The party opted to go through the Haunted Moor.

• THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Dar both had some misgivings about the choice of route. Marvin provided some Black Lotus to help the barbarian and the beastmaster overcome their fear of the supernatural.

• The party came across the ruins of a town and a castle. They opted not to investigate.

• The party camped for the night in the middle of the Haunted Moor. Soon after sundown, an eerie fog arose around their camp. From the fog came the clink of metal on metal and the sound of shuffling footsteps.

• A skeletal army appeared out of the fog. The undead were led by a spectral figure wearing plate mail, burned and blackened by fire. The figure rode a skeletal horse. The undead creature spoke and said he was Lord Augustus Actium, damned to wander the Moor for killing his wife, his children, the village priest, and the rest of the village. Actium had thought that his wife had been unfaithful. He had blamed the village priest. Actium had killed everyone on his lands in an orgy of violence and fire. Of course, both his wife and the priest were innocent.

• Lord Actium challenged anyone in the party to a one on one combat. Dar volunteered. The honorable combat Lord Actium sought soon degenerated into an epic battle. THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!, still under the effects of the Black Lotus, flung dirt and insults at both of the combatants. Disgusted by the barbarian’s ungentlemanly behavior, Actium ordered his skeletal army to attack.

• The battle ended with Lord Actium being slain. His skeletal army faded away along with the body of their lord.

Galath’s Roost

• Another day’s walk brought the party and the pleasure slaves to the village of Galath’s Roost. The party members could see from a distance that the people of the village didn’t seem quite right. They walked awkwardly or some of their body parts were not in correct proportion. The party knew that they were in the land of the Mauk, the inbred cannibal hillbillies.

• THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! wanted no part of the Mauk, so he started walking around the village. His buddy, Bailee the pleasure slave, wanted to go into Galath’s Roost to ask for directions, as no one had idea where Shaman’s Crown was. After some bickering, THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! relented just so Bailee would shut up. In disgust, grumbling and kicking stones, the brawny barbarian led the party towards the village of inbred cannibal hillbillies.

• As the party approached the town, a bell started tolling. Then black riders emerged from the village, heading straight for the party.

And that’s where we stopped for the night.

NPCs met

Bailee

A male pleasure slave and a poet. He has composed a ballad extolling THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!’s exploits. He kept singing the ballad until THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! smacked the slave upside the head, knocking him out cold.

Lord Actium

An undead monster who dwells in the Haunted Moor. The party defeated him and his skeletal army.

Marcus the Pig Farmer

The Black Hand kidnapped Marcus and was taking him to Shaman’s Crown when the party intervened.

The Priest of Yago the Demon Prince

The party killed a priest of Yago and his entourage in the Harrow Swamp. Who was this priest? How did he know where the party was?

Locations Visited

Harrow Swamp

The Haunted Moor

Galath’s Roost

Things

The Turtle Helm

A green, turtle-shaped helm with ruby eyes. Formerly worn by Joubert. Marvin removed it from Joubert’s severed head and was examining it at the end of the session.

I forgot all about the Turtle Helm. It’s in Marvin’s backpack. We’ll have to deal with this item next session.

Plot Hooks that have been closed or ignored or not followed up, etc.

Captain Blenheim, Ragnar, and the rest of the crew of the Mildred

They were left stranded in Harrow Swamp. The party has assumed that the Captain and his crew made it back to civilization.

Treason!

The party has proof of the treachery of Baron Henry Avigton. They also know that Prince Crixus may be assassinated by Montaroe within a week. None of the PCs had a connection to Tyros, so they didn’t follow this up. Marvin even thought about joining the rebellion.

Reward!

The party is owed a reward from the Tyrovian government in Pyrani for ending the depredations of Joubert and the River Rats. They can also claim a reward from Dagoberto the wine merchant.

The party opted not to return to Pyrani to claim their reward. Surprising.

Treasure!

The party is in the middle of a cavern full of riches: bolts of silk, casks of wine, ingots of silver, etc. Of course, the treasure is the ill-gotten booty of the River Rats and actually belongs to various merchants.

The players surprised me with this decision, also. I thought that they would spend days burying/hiding/moving the treasure. Instead, they left all of the treasure in the secret lair.

Open Plot Hooks

20 Pleasure Slaves

The party is in the middle of nowhere with 20 pleasure slaves depending on them.

Shaman’s Crown and Elslae

Shaman’s Crown is the location of some kind of nefarious activity of the Black Hand of Nogar-Sai. Selina, THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! friend, is supposedly held captive there. Agar’s enemy, Elslae, is there as well.

Madoc and Vitar, released

The party took Joubert’s lieutenants captive and then let them go.

I’m still thinking about what to do with these NPCs.

What’s Happened So Far

The party seeks Selina, step sister of THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!. She is a prisoner of the notorious Yari sorcerer Elslae, who lairs at a hill called Shaman’s Crown.

Shaman’s Crown lies in the Howling Hills, an area dominated by the Mauk: inbred, cannibal hillbillies. The Mauk in turn are dominated by Yar, an island nation of demon worshipping freakazoids.

The party has just crossed the Haunted Moor and are on the border of Mauk territory, near a village called Galath’s Roost.

The Tale of Heroes

The Battle of Galath’s Roost

• As the party neared the village of Galath’s Roost, a group of horsemen rode out of the gate and approached the party. The leader was pleased that the party had arrived early with the pleasure slaves. He also wanted to know where Vitar or Madoc was.

• The party told the horseman to bugger off. They kept walking instead of going into the village of Galath’s Roost.

• The horsemen rode into town, got reinforcements, and rode after the party.

• An epic combat ensued. Showing off his archery skills, Roubert dropped the leader of the horsemen before the enemy got into melee range.

• The party emerged victorious.

The Battle of Karnost

• The party approached Shaman’s Crown, the hill where THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! ‘s stepsister, Selina, was held prisoner. 9 stone menhirs formed a line across the ridge top of the hill. From a distance, the stone pillars formed a crown on the hilltop. A Mauk village known as Karnost sat some ways away from the foot of the hill.

• As the party approached the village, they saw a large band of Mauk approaching the gate. The party members recognized the banner of Brogha, High Chieftain of the Mauk. Naturally, THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! let out a battle cry and charged the group.

• An epic combat ensued. Brogha dropped Roubert with an excellent throw of his spear.

• Brogha also summoned a demon. Wielding the Sword of the Grey Queen, THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! dispatched the demon with a mighty blow.

• Even with demonic help and having dispatched Roubert, the Mauk were losing the battle. Brogha, showing wisdom or cowardice, turned and fled for the village gates, leaving his men to hold the party. The rest of the Mauk quickly broke and followed their leader.

• The party was celebrating their victory when they noticed that the entire village of Karnost was up in arms and preparing to march. There must have been several hundred Mauk hillbilly warriors ready to fight. Not even THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! wanted a part of that battle.

• The party made a strategic retreat.

Infiltrating Karnost

• The party retreated out of sight of Karnost. They met a traveler on the road. [This was Thomas’s replacement character. Thomas made Roubert’s Incapacitation roll, but Thomas wanted to play something else.] The party told the new guy (I can’t remember if Thomas named his new character or not) their tale. The new guy said he would sneak into town, find out any info on Selina, and then return to the party.

• The new guy allowed himself to be captured by one of the Mauk patrols roaming the area. The inbred, cannibal hillbillies took him into Karnost. Inside the town, the new guy saw a number of slave wagons and astonishingly, a unicorn with a golden rope looped around its neck.

• The new guy learned that Elslae, the Yari sorcerer, lived in a series of caves below the hill. None of the Mauk dared go near the caves. Selina was probably held there.

• Selina was one of the Marked. None of the Mauk knew what that meant [no one in the party knows either at the moment]. None of the Mauk would talk about the Marked, either.

• The guards brought the new guy before Brogha, High Chieftain of the Mauk. After some intense negotiations (or deep, immersive role-playing as we like to call it at the table), Brogha ordered the new guy to be made a slave of the Mauk. Not good.

• The new guy drew his weapon and attacked Brogha, hoping for the element of surprise.

• At that moment, THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! and Marvin throw off their Mauk disguises and moved to help the new guy.

And that’s where we stopped for the night.

Deep Thoughts

• I accused Heath of being a rules lawyer at one point. I don’t remember why. Heath seemed to be actually offended. I find this funny. I’m going to accuse him of being a power spanking munchkin next session.

• Thomas is on his third character after only five sessions. I also find this funny.

• The session was a little uneven due to some players being late and another leaving early. Real life sucks when it interferes with gaming.

NPCs met

Brogha

The High Chieftain of the Mauk. THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! nearly succeeded in killing the leader of the Mauk. Fate (i.e., soak rolls) decided that Brogha would live.

Locations Visited

Galath’s Roost. A small village on the edge of the Haunted Moor.

Karnost. A village near the base of the hill known as Shaman’s Crown.

Active Plot Hooks

20 Pleasure Slaves

The party is in the middle of Mauk (inbred, cannibal hillbilly) territory with 20 pleasure slaves depending on them.

Shaman’s Crown and Elslae

Shaman’s Crown is the location of some kind of nefarious activity of the Black Hand of Nogar-Sai. Selina, THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!!'s friend, is supposedly held captive there. Agar’s enemy, Elslae, is there as well.

Open Plot Hooks

Treason!

The party has proof of the treachery of Baron Henry Avigton. They also know that Prince Crixus of Tyros may be assassinated by a man named Montaroe within a week.

Reward!

The party is owed a reward from the Tyrovian government in Pyrani for ending the depredations of Joubert and the River Rats. They can also claim a reward from Dagoberto the wine merchant.

Treasure!

The party left a cavern full of riches: bolts of silk, casks of wine, ingots of silver, etc. Of course, the treasure is the ill-gotten booty of the River Rats and actually belongs to various merchants.

Madoc and Vitar

The party took Joubert’s lieutenants captive and then let them go.

World Records

Damage Inflicted

38 points. Dar, Session 2. Against the undead horror on the streets of Pyrani.

Damage Received

47 Points. Alzar, Session 2. During the Test of Combat against Vitar, the defrocked War Priest of Kesh. Luckily, Jack rolled a Raise on Alzar’s Incapacitation roll. Unluckily, he also rolled a 2 on the Wound chart: the Unmentionables. Vitar uses a maul. So, um, yeah, make up your own description on this one.

Experience and Glory

2 XP awarded. THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! only gets 1 point because Heath missed the first half of the session. Dar only get 1 point because Eric missed the last half of the session.

XP and Glory for current characters:

Agar 28 XP 15 Glory
Dar 31 XP 15 Glory
Marvin 27 XP 15 Glory
THARRRRR!!!!!!!!!! 31 XP 20 Glory
Thomas’s New Character 24 XP 10 Glory

Dead and Retired Characters:

Alzar (retired) 23 XP 10 Glory
Jaden (retired) 22 XP 11 Glory
Rohan (dead) 28 XP 10 Glory
Roubert (retired) 28 XP 10 Glory

Legend Chip Tally: 2

Spent – One Legend Chip awarded for killing Joubert and putting an end to the depredations of the River Rats.

Spent – Session 1. We started the campaign with one Legend Chip in the bag. Thomas drew it and saved it until the end of the night for XP for Rohan.

I’ve also made a House Rule that there will always be at least one Legend Chip in the bag.

Thanks for sharing again!

This makes me so anxious about starting my own LoS game - actual campaign isn't going to start for a long time, but my wife wants to try S&S so I'm likely to throw at least an one-session solo game soon Smile

Oh man, you should jump on that opportunity. I wish my wife showed ANY interest in gaming.

Loving these after action reports guys!

I'm lucky, she's in my 4E/Ptolus campaign and in occasional other games too, but haven't yet tried Savage Worlds. I'm curious to see how she plays a non-D&D -game.
