My group uses bennies and a variety of other things (dice, dominoes, pennies, pieces of paper) as markers for our SW games.

I'm looking to put together a "Benny Box" with a variety of markers and such in it.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks!

For my Warlords of Aros game, I use a big batch of cheap red glass accents I picked up at Michaels. These are the same red glass markers you can get at game stores but three times the volume at half the price.

For Solomon Kane, I bought the clay poker chips from Pinnacle.

If you're a fan of the glass markers, I suggest a stained glass supply house. They have the same things, in a wider variety of sizes and colors, and they tend to come by the pound quite a bit cheaper than craft stores.

Your local markets may vary. Wink

For most games, I use the SW poker chips from Prometheus Games (which aren't produced anymore, unfortunately); I got lucky and picked up someone's discarded camera case and use that for carrying the chips around.

For DL:R...I'm cheap so it's a toiletries kit bag someone can draw their chips out of. It's normally large enough to hold enough chips, 2 decks of cards and the 4 marker Staedtler set.

I've used glass beads and poker chips. I've also used skull beads like those shown here: http://skullsvilleusa.com/skull_beads.html

My hand-painted (and antiqued) wooden Fate Chips (1 1/2" wooden discs purchased from Michael's craft store) along with a glimpse of the little antique wooden bucket I use to hold them for my 'Deadlands' games:

I got the bucket off eBay a few years back. It actually needed a little repair work (and reinforcement) due to its age, but it works beautifully!

I've seen those beads used at cons.

They are small and, on a tight round crowded table it's easy for them to end up lost under papers, the battle mat, mixed in with dice, etc. Cool for Deadlands if you're looking for that extra ambiance.

Now the wooden poker chip idea is very cool, and you can hand (spray) paint them any color you want. I have a set of the nice SW tokens, and they work well, but they are a little small. I wish I had seen the wooden "chips" first I could have made excellent use of them.

I used glass beads forever, but for my upcoming Day After Ragnarok game, I'm using a glass jar full of washers.

Digging through my wife's stuff I found a mess of game tokens from Bullwinkle's. I've been using those.

However, if you dig around on the internet and ebay long enough, you should be able to find some replica coins to use (chinese coins, dubloons, etc).

Or you could pick up some plastic counters.

You can pick up cheap treasure chests at Michael's.

I used glass bead for years, and still would be doing but for the fact that I moved and had a tight weight/space allowance for my first trip. Of course I took gaming supplies, figured I'd pick up new bennies on arrival in one form another when at Conception (convention) I saw these mini poker chips from koplow games:

picture of them here.

So I picked up a tube. Come in their own handy container, are dead easy to carry around, compact and if you get the bright orange ones like I did the chances of losing them on the floor is a little less too Very Happy I guess if yu got a few colours you could use them easily enough as assorted status markers too.

Anyways they've worked out nicely for me though I do miss the sound of those glass beads rattling around in my old 'adventurers tea' tin as I wear those pc's down.

I'd like to use setting specific items and containers, but inspiration usually only strikes me after the fact...

Nice!

I use these. They come in a set of 60 with 10 of each different color. Since all but the white chips have numbers on one side, they make great stand ins of opposition minis. Just flip them over and voila! Instant shaken status!

My players have gotten used to edible bennies, since I used Chocolate coins for 50 Fathoms, though I do have a score and seven sixpences that I've been using in my Rippers game.

I have a little habit of making a 'Bennie Box' for games during game-play down-time. They include thematic bennies, cards, dice, boxes, and markers. I've spent much time researching various them styles and how to put them together.

So, I'd be happy to point anyone in the right location for these items or help them cobble together one of their own!

My rules for benny boxes (followed when possible):
-Find cards with a lot of artowrk on all cards
-Gamescience Dice ('cause ya gotta love Lou!)
-Be cheap....$ is hard to come by!
-must have about 8 special Wild Dice for players

So, without further ado:

-----------------------------------------
Savage Fantasy (Yes, those ARE my original D&D dice from the 1970s...the 'magic ccg thingies keep track of magic Power Points rather nicely)

------------------------------------------
Savage Pulp Action:

-------------------------------------------
Savage Pulp Science Fiction (In both Pulp games' Shaken markers, I use heroclix action tokens with words like 'Bif! and 'Socko!'..heheh. I am gonna re-purpose some Magic CCG life point counters (see fantasy box) with artwork printed and glued over the face):

-------------------------------------------
Savage Pirates (I had FUN with this one!! Special rules with the special cards!! The wild dice are golden skulls - look close! They are by the skull bags. The Bennies? That's the treasure/bling, of course! Gold coins, silver necklaces, and such!):

--------------------------------------------
Savage Horror (Actually a savaging of the Chill Rpg):

--------------------------------------------
Savage Star Trek (gotta have the reg, blue and gold bennies!..needs work, though)

---------------------------------------------
Savage Traveller (from the old Traveller RPG...repainting Magic CCG life point counters for Traveller psionics)

-----------------------------------------------
Savage Star Wars: Clone Wars
(I use the big crystal-like things to keep track of Power Points - Force crystals for Force points!!)

-----------------------------------------------
Savage Harry Potter (still working on it...Bennies will be house symbols and the dark mark for GM bennies...magic Power Points will be kept track of on players wands by moving a band up in down on a scale on the wand's side! Much fun!)

-----------------------------------------------

I found when you un-pack your Benny Box (I LIKE that term!), the players start to get in the game immediately!!

Holy crap, Professor! You've turned this Benny box thing into an art! I applaud you, sir. Now please tell me two things:

1) where did you get the box for you fantasy theme?

2) found any card decks that would work well for a Solomon Kane game?

I have a few of mine left, as well, but most were rendered useless throughout their career (late 70s/early 80s) due to excessive rolling and the corners are all rounded off!

Anyway, great photos! I love all the converted cigar boxes!!!

!) Michael's Craft Store, Jo-anne's Fabric and/or Walmart. They were on clearance. The box is Hosley 'Elegant Expressions' H93946WL Small Faux Leather Box. I haven't found it's exact type on-line....BUT...here's a SWEET one nonetheless...check over the dimensions for your taste (better a little too big than a little too small!)

@Pfr Fate: WOW. I like them all, but the Chill set really takes me back. That is a game that would do really well with Savage Worlds!

For my fantasy game I use cheap plastic gold dubloons, and for my Slipstream game I use little plastic space ships, both from the party supply store, Lippmans that my sister manages. Theser are in the party favor bins and I paid a dime each for them. Good cheap bennies.

But now that I've seen Pfr Fate's work, I feel I may be skimping on my GM duties. (Just Kidding. My players are happy if I just show up with the same game two weeks in a row!)

Pfr Fate, those Benny Boxes are amazing. So, have you found anything that would work for a European Victorian Steampunk setting?
