Hi Guys,
I was wondering if you could help me with something for my new adventure. It is based in my Pulp seting. The setting premise has some links with the Ravaged Earth setting. Around the 1920's Earth was hit by a meteor storm, like the Tunguska event, only a little more destructive. The US west coast was hit and all the lands west of the Appalachian mountains, from Richmond to the Gulf of Mexico were flooded or destroyed. A couple of years later the sea has withdrawn over a large area.
The meteors consisted a lot of this element called Phaetorium, a strange element with mutagenic porperties. This caused all kinds of monsters, zombies and other things to appear in the destroyed and flooded lands. Ensue all kinds of adventure....
The thing is this I am designing this group of wealthy Southern gents who want to repopulate the Old South and later become independent form the USA. And they are willing to do this at all costs. Now I am looking for a name for this group / secret society. Does anyone have any ideas for this?
Furthermore I have this Russian industrialist, exciled from the USSR, living in New York involved in this group. You see, this Phaetorium is a little like Ghost Rock in that it can power all kinds of steampunkian contraptions and this Russian really wants to get his hands on the stuff. The Russian has some ties to one of the party members and I was looking for a reason why this Russian wants to start cooperating with these Southerners. But I guess I already answered that for myself. In exchange for his help building and designing the army to liberate the South he gets unlimited access to the Phaetorium in the area.
Thanks for the help guys

Well the obvious name for the Southern Gentlemen would be the KKK
That said have you read Day After Ragnarok? that is a setting that has many similar themes |

As a gentleman from the south, I am offended by this sir!
Oh wait.... I'm not a gentleman after all. Never mind
Anyway, as for the group from the south, why not go with the tried and true 'Confederacy'? We did swear that the south would rise again. Of course, if you want a more dramatic name, then how about:
The Risen South
or
The Southern Empire |

Well, their a lot of settings that mirror this. If for your own use the CSA is popular. "Confederate States of America." Or Union of Confederate States UCS ... etc. _________________ Dean: "Ya' know she could be faking."

If you are looking for something a little less inflamatory than "The Confederacy" may I suggest "The Free Columbia Society"?
Mind you if the water reached Richmond there would be little left of the old south but mud flats. Assuming the US survived the strike the government would be MORE than happy to accept the help with rebuilding the devastated areas. It could be well over a generation before anyone notices or cares about the politics. |

why not "The Sons of Liberty" or "Knights of the Republic" (echoing Star Wars).
A: Southern leaders, then and now, claim that the Civil War was about liberty.
B: The Confederacy was probably truer to the ideals of a republic (at least the notion of the Confederacy, if not in practice) than the Union.
I see no reason why it should have to have an title that is obviously contrary to the past 60 years of history thus calling attention to these "gentlemen".
Is the Russian a die-hard Marxist-Leninist? Is he a red or white Russian or maybe even a Czarist? Is he associated with the Church? Is he actually Russian or is he one of any number of nationalities within the Russian/Soviet sphere? |

I guess ... still strong Confederacy self-indentification in the southern US at that time (1920s) and in a period of adversity I could see them marshalling around a familiar term even if out of context or without taking on any of the previous associations of the word? _________________ Dean: "Ya' know she could be faking."

| Do you ever stop and just marvel at how messed up it is that the US of A had an all-out civil war? Sheesh. |

What really threw me was going to a book store in the UK. It may have been an unusual shop for all I know, but their American Civil War section was fairly comparable to most book store's Sci-Fi/Fantasy sections in the US.
Well, that and having to have the "American" added to the front, just like the muffins, was jarring. |

Honestly, I marvel we've only had one in the US. But we're still pretty young, really. _________________ Joel Kinstle

Wow, thanks for all the inspiration guys.
I think I will go with something like The Risen South. Sounds a bit more ominous. And I also have an idea for a logo for these guys. Like the Rising Sun flag of Imperial Japan, but in blue and with stars in the 'sunrays'
Now to look for someone with some photoshop skills.
My Russian NPC is a Capitalist, probably Tsarist as well.
Thanks again guys! _________________

Yes lots of disposed White Russians many with military backgrounds by the time the Civil war was over in 1921. And it was not unheard for them to get involved in other countries internal disputes. Just about every tin pot Chinese govoner and warlord had white Russian officers to train the troops in the use of all the surplus ww1 weapons. |

Scaramus....take the Obama banner (flag?) that is all white with his campaign symbol rising over a hill, cut out the Obama campaign symbol, replace with a circular cutout of the Confederate Battle Flag.
I say name this Tsarist "Velikovsky" (see Wikipedia) and make him interested in something called Newton's Cannon (atracting interplanetary bodies such as meteors and comets) to use as weapons. |

Ah you mean this one:
That's Inspired, thanks
Actually, the Tsarist is called Zbarski and is the patron of one of the players. This player has a character who is a Russian scientist who is payed by Zbarski to invent stuff. He notices that his blueprints are messed with and he recieves reports of contraptions that are very close to his inventions. _________________

| referring to the Obama flag...exactly....and its pretty recognizable to anyone who paid attention to American or international politics in the past 2 years. You get instant, and maybe conflicting, emotions when you juxtapose both symbols. |
