A while ago I seem to remember someone creating a setting based on twisted versions of classic fairy tales. There was a web site with some short stories to preview the setting, including one where the Big Bad Wolf goes phycho and chases Red Ridinghood around before she kills him (I think she blew him away with the hunters shotgun?). What happened to that setting? Is it still being made or was it dropped? _________________ http://tristansnexus.wordpress.com/ - A gallery of some of the minis I've painted over the years |

Last I heard, the manuscript had been sent to PEG. But that was a while ago and I've heard nothing else since.
Seeing as how Scairy Tales is a setting intended to be published by PEG, it would be more appropriate to discuss it at the Official Setting board. _________________ The rabbit is cuddly. Kids like little cuddly sidekicks. I mean-- The rabbit-- It's a time-tested-- Okay, the rabbit bites.

I wait for it since 2004. It was one of 3 reasons I bought the first edition Savage Worlds rules back then...... _________________ tartex - Minion of Kitchensink

From what I understand (which could be entirely wrong), Scairy Tales, like some other settings, is really dependent on its creator, and last I heard, he has "retired" from gaming.
But like I said, could be wrong; that's not any kind of "inside" information. _________________ Clint Black

Oh, I didn't know it was an official setting, I thought it was 3rd party.
It's too bad Scairy Tales fell through. I've been reading the Fables comic recently and I'm starting to think how interesting it would be to turn into a Savage Worlds campaign. Scairy Tales was the only setting I could think of that was already pretty close to what I'm looking for. It would have made a good base to build the campaign from. Oh well, I guess I'll have to see about making the setting from scratch then. _________________ http://tristansnexus.wordpress.com/ - A gallery of some of the minis I've painted over the years |

Still if it won't get published any longer, maybe we get a free release?
If it gets published even better! _________________ tartex - Minion of Kitchensink

Hello Folks,
Yeah, I 'retired' from gaming about 2 years ago primarily because I lacked the time to devote to it, although I'm getting the itch again. We'll see how that turns out.
As to Scairy Tales, it's complete...100% finished, and has been for several years now. Due to a miscommunication, I wrote it all in the wrong format, and was rejected by PEGINC. If I want to turn it in again, I must rewrite/reformat the entire thing, and I don't have the time or heart to do that right now. Maybe soon.
Thanks,

Marshal,
Sometime ago, Shane & Zeke taught me how to do actual layout with Adobe Pagemaker (The Feeding Frenzy for those who remember) and told me to do my own layout to spare them the effort. Good deal.
Through the various iterations of management that mandate had apparently changed, so when I finally turned in ST (using Adobe InDesign) two years ago, it was rejected. Simon told me it had to be in Word format...or basically stripping it out of all the layout work I had done. Since I didn't have Word (Mac guy), I would have to download Open Office, and cut and paste and reformat the entire text...meaning find everything that was supposed to be Bold or Italics or whatever, and redo it. It is a monumental effort of time consumption. The most boring, detailed, busy work, and I didn't have the time or the heart to take that task on, so ST has just rotted on my digital shelf for the last two years.
The possibly good news is I spoke with Shane today and he wants to see my InDesign file, apparently (I could be wrong) to determine if PEG still even wants ST, and if so, whether I would have to reformat it or if the InDesign file is adequate.
I'll keep everyone apprised of any progress. _________________ - Brent 'thwaak' Wolke

crap..
i know there are some programs that change formats on files, from one type to another, i was just wondering if there was something like that, that could be done.
looks like you've already considered that.
i'm still looking forward to it..whenever that may be.. as long as it's not when never. _________________ "I'm Hotep" |

Glad to hear this Brent. Especially since I bugged you about this last month in an unrelated thread.
Scairy Tales is THE reason my entire gaming group got into Savage Worlds. We signed up for an event at Gen Con years back thinking it was a Deadlands variant, and ended up at a Scairy Tales game ran by Brent. The whole table was filled by my gaming group (who goes to the Con together each year). Afterwards, we ran to the Pinnacle booth to pick up the rules.
Of course, we have since played every flavor and campaign of Savage Worlds that has come out. We even have Fantasy Grounds to do it with our friends who have moved away. But our origins, and hearts, still lie with Scairy Tales.
And I NEVER can think of Prince Charming, Papa Bear, and the Gingerbread Man the same way again. We took the characters we ran at Brent's demo game at Gen Con, and kept using them during his playtesting, and long afterwards in an extended Scairy Tales campaign. I think they are all Veteran now!

Steve,
Yep, that GenCon game is fondly rembered. It was at 6 AM, and I didn't think anyone was going to show up for it, and you guys were already waiting for me at the table! And what made it so great was that you guys totally jumped into the mood and setting without hesitation and ran with it making the whole experience fantastic, and whether you realize it or not, it influenced me heavily in the direction the book was written.
I still crack up over Tom's characterization of Prince Charming.

Yeah, Tom had the greatest Prince Charming. It was like Dudley Do Right trying to control the A-Team.
For those who never got to see anything of Scairy Tales, it has the most unique feel of any campaign I have ran, and definately the most enjoyable locations. I fondly remember my player's trip to the Pumpkin Patch to rescue the princess. Sure...it sounds like a pleasant place. Until you find the decapitated bodies and the maneating gourds! I busted out my Halloween decorations for that with play-doh creatures, and still have pictures somewhere where we posted on the playtest message board.
And one of the final campaign battles defending Prince Charming's castle from the hordes of nightmare creatures. The last stand, so to speak. Oh...I think we need to dust that campaign off for a reboot! |

Wouldn't it be easy to get Scairy Tales published by another company?
Maybe there is even use for the existing layout.
Ravaged Earth for example was published really fast, once it go taken over by Reality Blurs. _________________ tartex - Minion of Kitchensink
