We played a one-nighter of Savage Goonies this saturday and it was awesome.
It was 1986, coastal Maine. We were all 12 years old. We had formed a club called The Freak Detectives. We had a treehouse.
I was worried that the young hindrance was be very hard to deal with. It wasn't, it felt just right.
The GM (never run SW before, but played plenty) had a modified version of the Thief and Woodsman edges for the stealthy guy and the boy scout. He reduced the requirements and made the bonus a +1.
About half-way through the game, I realized that I was 12 years old in 1986. Holy Crap! No wonder this felt so natural to me.
It was obviously a Goonies knock-off in the beginning (pirate treasure, enter secret path through the basement of an old, secluded building) then veered in the Scooby Doo direction (animatronic skeletons and rats, a greedy professor setting the whole thing up to cover his own treasure theft scheme).
In the final scene we sneaked out through a porthole of the locked cabin on a boat. They had to remove the frame for the fat-kid, me, to get through. The MacGuyver kid jammed the door to the rest of the cabin shut, trapping two goons. Then we stealthily open the door to the bridge, where the boss goon was. All four of us had the drop and threw rocks, loosed slingshots, at him. He crumpled to the ground with 67 points of damage! _________________ Roll For News a podcast about what's new and noteworthy in Tabletop RPGs |

Hindrance
Truffle-Shuffle
At least once per game session, another player can require you to do the humiliating "truffle-shuffle", a dance where you lift your shirt and jiggle your body fat. This causes an immediate -2 to your Charisma for the rest of the session. _________________ "Good people are good because they've come to wisdom through failure."

Naw, they're just kids, they forget stuff like that easily! Only give them a -1 for that scene!
Your lucky MacGyver came out in 1985.

No no no no no. You get a benny for doing the truffle shuffle! Anyone who puts themselves through that sort of humiliation for the entertainment of the group deserves a benny.

Strangely, I'd finished writing a free kid-based pulp adventure last week. This will be released FREE around the Christmas period from our website. Still a little wait, but it's written! _________________ Wiggy

Kid based where we adults play kids, or is it for getting kids to play the game?

More the former, but could be used for the latter as well. _________________ Wiggy
