Fan fiction!!!! (Shudder...) Surprised

I have images of poorly written Star Trek/Buffey/Sailor Moon crossovers that are nothing more than some unimaginative geek's sick, obsessive sex fantasies. (Ooooooh! Hot Willow/Comander Ivanonva/She-Ra girl-on-girl-on-girl action!)

What amazes me is that anyone would want to share this crap with the rest of the world.

Which almost certainly means that you indulge in reading or (Gawd help us) writing it. Razz

Boy.

I would love to do a comic series.

But comic pages are SO time consuming. The one leetle-widdle page that I did a while ago took me 3 days. I just cannot do that amount of work unless paid and paid well... cause it is really hard work to boot.

... Shark Bytes took me well over 40 man hours of work from start to finish ... Wink

Do it in your spare time and submit it whenever its done. It doesn't need to be a regular thing either ... a "Storn Cook original comic" would be a nice feature in any issue. Wink

Yup. Understand that. But you got many, many pages for that 40 hours work. If I put 40 hours into a comic, you would get a measly two pages. Just not doable to the standards that I would want to hold to.

A character illo, here or there... sure. But a comic page? I just simply cant swing it as much as I would love to. Maybe if I hit the lotto or all of sudden, my originals start commanding top dollar.

Character illustrations are great ... how about a few quarter-page illos every once and awhile? Very Happy

Things like your island maps would be great even though they were just "doodles"! A picture can spark some great ideas!

I second Bill comment since Storn Islands "doodles" are going to be an element of our 50F game located in the kehana flumes.
so keep on "doodling" Storn and bless Shark Bytes with it... Wink

Considering it's been more than three years, I think the voting is pretty much over. Wink

Is this thread Harrowed, or what? Savage Jack

Clint, you can probably zap this one, as far as Shark Bytes' editorial staff is concerned.

And Zeth, I'm happy to hear that, 'cause "we don't do fiction." Wink

No problem. Cutter's right; I need to do some culling. Just don't want to accidentally delete a thread someone wanted to keep around. I'll just need to stick with the obvious ones.

I voted "I don't care," because I'm more interested in a fan rag being available than not, if that's what it comes down to, but if it isn't a matter of survival I'd say leave out the fiction. Only one time in my whole life have I ever been bothered to read fiction in an RPG magazine, and it was the first time I ever read a Dragon Magazine, back in 1984. I read nearly every word of that magazine. But I've never bothered since, and that includes Shark Bytes.

What would be GREAT, though, is interactive fiction that uses the Savage Worlds system. How awesome would that be? Something clocking in around 100 entries, for about 10 - 15 pages, that gives the reader a chance to take the rules out for a spin. Anyone be interested in something like that?

-B

EDIT: In case you aren't familiar with the term "interactive fiction," I'm referring to stories written in second person ("you") where the reader periodically makes choices about the outcome of the adventure, and thus the story takes branching paths. Think of the old "Choose Your Own Adventure" books, but these would have working game mechanics as well, so you'd read with a character sheet and dice in hand.
