In many westerns I've seen it's a staple - in other films as well - that at one point the good guy fights with the bad guy. They're locked in combat, often times each having a knife and they roll around on the floor, trying to push their knife into the other's chest, while at the same time trying to hold back the knife of their enemy with their left hand.
(Usually, the good guy loses his weapon at some point, then manages to turn the bad guy's knife around, killing him with his own blade. But that's beside the point.)
How would such a thing work in SW? There's no active defense maneuver, so my guess is, you'd have to act first on initiative, then announce that you intend to catch your enemy's knife hand with your left hand when he next lunges at you and simultaneously try to ram your knife between his ribs.
Is that a grapple attack and a normal fighting, suffering the MAP? How would both end up "holding wrists" so to speak? On a failed attack roll? GM's discretion?
Granted, this situation hasn't come up at my table yet, but I'm wondering. _________________ Markus

Well, first off, it could just be part of the descriptive text of the knife fight in general instead of an actual "maneuver." Both opponents holding the other's wrist as part of their Parry to avoid being hit by the knife attack.
Another possibility (since we are talking westerns) with the Deadlands Full Defense rule, it could be an explanation of that. If both opponents went Full Defense, it could be "grabbing the knife hand."
Or it could be some kind of multi-actioned grappling and attack roll like you said. Heck, it could possibly be a multi-actioned Agility Trick (grabbing the wrist to reduce the opponent's Parry).
Ultimately, as far as what if official from the core rulebook, it'd probably fall more under the descriptive text of the fight itself, but options abound in this case. _________________ Clint Black
