A sawed-off shotgun (at least in DL:R) hits everyone in a small burst template centered on the target. If you are firing at something in an adjacent square to yourself, do you also get hit in the AoE?

Sorry, sawed-off shotguns do not use the Small Burst Template even in Deadlands Reloaded. Check the errata here (specifically under the Weapons Table)...
